Cardiovascular Technology Program Faculty and Administrative Leaders
Mary Wingold completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography in 1994 at the Medical College of Georgia. There she trained in the ultrasound fields of Abdomen, OB/GYN, Vascular, and Echocardiography. This program allowed her to experience clinical training with excellent sonographers at ten different medical facilities. She is registered in all these fields but has specialized in cardiovascular sonography in both inpatient and outpatient facilities since 1994. Prior to becoming program director of the Clemson University/Prisma Health Cardiovascular Imaging Leadership program in 2021, she served as a CVT Educator within this concentration for 7 years. She receives great delight in sharing her years of experience with the next generation of sonographers. She completed her Master of Science in Education from Purdue University in 2017 with a focused concentration in learning design technology. This degree helped bring modern concepts and innovative educational ideas to the program. She is interested in research and furthering respect for the profession of sonography. Mary is a founding board member of the South Carolina Society of Echocardiography (2019-2021). She currently is a member of the American Society of Echocardiography, the Society for Diagnostic Medical Sonography, and the Society for Vascular Ultrasound.
Raina Newman is a registered sonographer specializing in adult and pediatric echocardiography. She has been an educator with the CVT program since 2019. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from Valdosta State University in 2008 and an Associate of Applied Science in Cardiovascular Technology from Darton College (now Albany State University) in 2010. Raina’s career in healthcare began in 2007 in electrocardiography (ECG). She then worked as an echocardiographer for over a decade with many of those years spent as a clinical preceptor for the CVT program. She is a member of the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS), the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE), and the South Carolina Society of Echocardiography (SCSE). Raina has always had a passion for education and enjoys being able to work with students to help them attain their goals of becoming highly qualified sonographers.
Carrie Taylor is a board-certified sonographer specializing in vascular technology and adult echocardiography. She joined the CVT Leadership Program as an educator in April 2022. Carrie received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2003 from Columbia College. A love of photography and science is what ultimately lead her to ultrasound. Carrie’s healthcare career began in 2004 as a sonographer assistant/student at Advanced Diagnostics Inc. She completed their academic program in 2006. Carrie has experience in a wide variety of clinical settings to include inpatient, outpatient, and specialty physician practices. She has had the privilege of teaching students and new-hires one-on-one in the clinical setting for many years. Professional memberships include Society for Vascular Ultrasound, South Carolina Society for Vascular Ultrasound, American Society of Echocardiography, and South Carolina Society of Echocardiography. Carrie served as President of the SCSVU in 2017 and is a founding board member of the SCSE (2019-2022). Her passions are education and quality. It is her mission to share her knowledge and love of the cardiovascular sonography profession with future and current sonographers.
Dr. Kelly received his medical doctorate from the University of Cape Town in South Africa and did an internship in Cape Town for a year.
After that, he spent his residency-equivalent training in London for two years and then came to the United States to complete his pediatric residency at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, IL. This was followed by fellowships at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, NC in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics.
