Program Overview

Our Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Fellowship provides interested fellows with a strong educational program that provides the foundation they need to become well-trained orthopedic foot and ankle surgeons.

With two highly trained, experienced faculty on hand, the program has the potential to offer experience in every procedure expected of foot and ankle surgeons, as well as access to cutting edge procedures and new technologies.

Our foot and ankle surgeons have a high clinical volume, and our patients have a wide variety of pathologies. Fellows would cover all of the subject areas recommended by the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society, or AOFAS, our subspecialty society.

Tyler Gonzalez, MD and Benjamin Jackson III, MD, both renowned specialists in minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery, founded the Minimally Invasive Foot and Ankle Surgery Institute at Prisma Health. These distinguished physicians are recognized global leaders in the field, with expertise spanning a wide range of procedures, including minimally invasive bunion surgery, hammertoe correction, Zadek osteotomies, Achilles tendon repairs and MIS joint fusions. They serve patients from around the world who seek advanced minimally invasive treatments for foot and ankle conditions. In addition to providing cutting-edge care, Dr. Gonzalez and Dr. Jackson are committed to advancing the field through ongoing research and innovation in minimally invasive surgical techniques.

The fellow has a 24-month rotating lecture schedule with additional didactic learning opportunities. Currently, the orthopedic foot and ankle surgery program is one of the busiest sections within the orthopedic department when it comes to research productivity. With multiple ongoing research projects and an interested and dedicated faculty, our program would meet the research needs of a potential fellow.

In addition, our faculty members serve on multiple national committees within the AOFAS, AOA, and AAOS. With a strong desire to teach, to serve and to educate in our specialty. We believe that this combination of education, broad range of pathology, motivated teachers and research exposure would provide an excellent learning and training environment.
