Prehospital Education Faculty
John Miller oversees all Emergency Medical training through Prisma Health Upstate Simulation Center. This includes, but is not limited to, the University of South Carolina School of Medicine-Greenville EMT education module, EMT training classes for the community, Greenville Health Authority Firefighter EMT training grant, and the Greenville County School District High School EMT Program. Additional duties include management of Community Paramedic-Integrated Mobile Healthcare training, National Association of Emergency Medical Technician Trauma, Pediatric, and Medical Advanced Life Support courses. John is also Training Center Faculty and Educator for the Prisma Health-Upstate American Heart Association Training Center. Over his 38 years of paramedic experience, he served as an EMS Supervisor, Critical Care Paramedic, Flight Paramedic and Tactical Paramedic.
In Memory of H. Dean Douglas was a clinical coordinator and EMT educator for the Greenville Health System’s Division of Prehospital Medicine. He earned a Master’s degree in Health Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Medical Care. Dean had over thirty years of EMS experience and formerly served as Captain of Operations at Greenville County EMS in South Carolina. He also had twenty years of experience as a Tactical Medic and fifteen years as a primary “all hazards” rescue provider in Greenville. Dean moved to academia in 2010, but still practiced as a paramedic across the upstate of South Carolina. Dean also served on the state training committee and with the NAEMT as the State Advocacy Coordinator. Dean founded what is now known as the Prehospital Education department, serving the University of South Carolina School of Medicine-Greenville medical students and affiliates, as well as a multitude of educational opportunities for our community. Dean’s passion continues to fuel our department’s mission and love for public service.
Jennifer Fontenot is an Academic Coordinator for the Prisma Health-Upstate Simulation Center. She has a Bachelors of Science degree and Associates of Applied Science in Paramedicine. Jennifer became a Nationally Registered Paramedic in 2022, and she was a previous student of our own Emergency Medical Technician course in 2018. Jennifer is also an AHA Basic Life Support Instructor, AHA Heartsaver Instructor, Continuing Education Program Instructor, and Stop the Bleed Instructor. In her role, she coordinates the courses and activities of the Prehospital Education department while managing the operations of the Prisma Health-Upstate American Heart Association Training Center.
