0:17 i'm laura holden i'm the director of the
0:18 pgy1 pharmacy residency program on the
0:21 inpatient side
0:22 for prisma health i am also the director
0:26 of clinical pharmacy services for prisma
0:28
health midlands
0:30
one of the things about our prisma
0:31
health residency program
0:33
is that we have been around for almost
0:36
50 years
0:37
we have a great deal of support within
0:40
prisma health as well as within the
0:42
pharmacy department to
0:44
train our residents and to
0:47
make sure that we're training the next
0:48
generation and our colleagues
0:50
as we move along i'm nicole bookstaver
0:54
i'm the manager of our ambulatory
0:56
clinical pharmacy services here at
0:58
prisma health
0:58
and i'm also the rpd for our pgy1
1:00
program focused on ambulatory care
1:03
the few things that set our program
1:04
apart from others is
1:06
our preceptors we have a awesome group
1:09
of preceptors
1:10
that cross over both in our pgi1 and
1:13
pgy2 programs they really have a passion
1:15
for what they do
1:16
are interested in collaboration research
1:19
and really care about our residents and
1:21
supporting them and then there's a
1:22
variety of
1:23
elective opportunities to name a few hiv
1:26
hep c clinic
1:27
geriatrics drug information
1:30
more than you can do an entire year one
1:33
experience that we
1:35
highly highly encourage all of our pgi 1
1:37
residents to participate in is our
1:39
clinical teaching certificate program or
1:41
ctc
1:42
and it is run through the college of
1:44
pharmacy at usc
1:45
and it starts out with some core
1:48
didactic
1:48
information about clinical precepting as
1:51
well as
1:52
academia and depending on what a
1:54
resident's career interests
1:55
are they can pick either of those tracks
1:58
there's also opportunity to kind of
1:59
oscillate between them
2:01
it's an awesome program we've gotten
2:03
nothing but positive feedback from it
2:06
and it really sits in parallels very
2:08
nicely with the clinical learning
2:10
experiences that they're already
2:11
partaking in
2:13
my name is marina i'm the pgy1 pharmacy
2:15
resident in the ambulatory care focus
2:17
i did my schooling at the university of
2:19
kansas for pharmacy school
2:20
my name is abigail bocknight i'm a pgy1
2:23
in health systems administration and
2:25
pharmacy leadership
2:27
i did both my undergraduate and my
2:29
pharmd at the university of south
2:30
carolina college of pharmacy
2:32
when i came out here for my interview i
2:34
could tell that people really cared
2:35
about me as a person and my support my
2:37
growth
2:38
and also each other there was a lot of
2:40
interprofessional
2:41
people really supporting each other and
2:43
you could tell that there was a huge
2:45
aspect of growth i had several rotations
2:48
here as a student
2:49
that showed me the type of preceptorship
2:52
that i could expect as a resident
2:54
and then prisma health pharmacy
2:56
residency program has a
2:58
very lengthy list of learning
3:00
opportunities for residents
3:01
and almost as long as the list of
3:04
preceptors who
3:05
are board certified and trained in their
3:08
prospective specialties so i knew that i
3:10
would have
3:11
the opportunities to succeed here in
3:13
this program the first rotation was
3:15
definitely kind of a culture shock of
3:17
wow i'm really a pharmacist and i am
3:19
responsible for these people's lives and
3:21
their health and so
3:22
i've had a lot of support in that first
3:24
couple weeks but i have had a lot of
3:25
autonomy and
3:26
trust from my preceptors to where they
3:28
show me okay we know that you know
3:30
the material and we know you're
3:31
competent and so i've been able to kind
3:33
of
3:34
expand and grow while also having
3:37
someone there as a backup if i needed it
3:39
probably the majority of our residents
3:41
do go on to pursue a pgy2
3:44
we also have some residents who have
3:46
gone on to
3:47
a number of different clinical areas we
3:49
really feel that because we give you
3:50
such a variety in your learning
3:52
experiences that you are prepared to
3:54
jump right into a clinical
3:56
role straight out of your first year of
3:58
residency
3:59
we make sure that you do have a research
4:01
project that is vetted by our research
4:03
team that can be completed in a year
4:05
but also is going to be able to be
4:07
something that you can potentially
4:09
publish
4:09
at the end of your residency and then we
4:12
want to make sure that you have a good
4:13
work-life balance and you have a lot of
4:15
support
4:15
i think there's a lot of opportunities
4:17
as far as quality of life and colombia
4:20
is
4:20
not too big but it's also not too small
4:22
i do love the
4:23
central location in the state where you
4:25
can go two hours to charleston and be on
4:27
the beach one weekend and then the next
4:29
weekend you can go up to the mountains
4:30
just another two hours away and so it's
4:32
a perfect location for that
4:34
we all kind of are there for each other
4:35
we have the same office we all sit
4:37
within
4:38
a few feet of each other and so if
4:39
someone's having a bad day or a great
4:41
day and wants to share that experience
4:43
there's always ears to listen
4:45
the support that they have is something
4:47
that
4:48
i don't think that you're going to find
4:49
anywhere else it really is special
4:51
and we make sure that we support our
4:53
residents in
4:55
everything that they want to do
4:56
throughout their residency program
5:11
you
