PGY1/PGY2 program purpose: The PGY1/PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency at Prisma Health–Upstate is a combined two-year post-graduate program. The purpose of the PGY1 year is to build upon the foundation of the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and develop strong, well-rounded clinicians responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of health conditions and begin to build exposure to administrative and leadership topics within pharmacy. The purpose of the PGY2 year of the program is to expand upon the foundation of the PGY1 experiences to develop effective pharmacy practice leaders. The second year focuses on gaining knowledge, exposure and experience in a wide array of areas within pharmacy administration. This is accomplished through integrating the resident with the leadership team to help drive change within the health system. Residents who successfully complete this residency are prepared for a clinical, operational or executive leadership role.
