i was really impressed by the vast

amount of rotations that we have in the

heart hospital

able to really work through this

separate heart hospital and focus in on

like the advanced therapies that we have

so we really offer those advanced

therapies and i think that's why i was

really interested in pursuing a pgy2

there's a lot of things to think the

pediatrics pgyt program

kind of makes it very unique mainly

because we offer

the opportunity to tailor your year with

a focus so depending on where you're

coming from from your pgy1

you're actually focusing and

specializing in a clinical subspecialty

we do offer a variety of rotations

and numerous amounts of different

subspecialty areas

the pharmacy department as a whole

offers many opportunities for

wellness so whether that be the

rejuvenation room that was recently

added in the pharmacy department

or bringing in different speakers to

speak with us in our monthly department

meetings to really try to focus on

having that work life balance something

that we as preceptors try to model for

the residents as well

i think my independence has grown a lot

when you hit pgy2 you kind of hit the

ground running

and that's really a good thing because

you need to be prepared to

be a pharmacist independently fully

independent after this year so i think

my independence has really improved and

not as reliant as

i used to be on my preceptors i would

say our preceptors do a really great job

knowing you know when we might need a

little more help versus whenever

you know whenever they need to let us

just kind of be on our own

um and i think the level of autonomy is

there's a lot of fun things to do in

columbia so with our co-residents we go

out to eat a lot of the time

i like that kind of small city vibe you

get a lot of different restaurants to

choose from and a lot of like events

always happening

when choosing a program i really

recommend that the resident would

think about what their career goals were

what experiences there are that they

would gain

within a certain program whether that be

a specific patient population

that they would see here versus other

programs that they're interested in

in addition to that i think would be

program fit so as they're

able to speak to some of our current

residents and our preceptors

really to find somewhere that they feel

comfortable

one of the most important things that

i'll remember throughout my time here is

the relationships i have with people

my co-residents but also the physicians

that i've been able to work with

interdisciplinary team because i do feel

going on rounds they really appreciate

pharmacy input and they appreciate what

we have to say so i feel like we're

like a very important member of the team

healthcare is a dynamic field we have to

be able to work as a team

overall for both the residents and the

preceptors you'll find a good

camaraderie there within the team
