a few things that set our program apart

we are an adult level one trauma center

a pediatric level two trauma center and

a comprehensive stroke

center which is all valuable in critical

while on my rotation the resident will

multi-disciplinary

team and they will work with that team

that will improve the safe and

efficacious use of those medications

they're going to get exposure to the

disease states of surgical populations

but we'll also make sure that we cover

a very foundational critical care

what led me to pick prisma health

upstate for my residency was honestly a

combination of things

i knew that there were multiple great

icu programs available in the country

but what was really important to me was

fit i wanted a program where i would fit

in well with the staff and be well

supported by my

preceptors and multiple mentors but

still be challenged to learn a lot

they're certainly going to learn to take

excellent care of patients but they're

going to learn about all the other

aspects that are part of being a

clinical pharmacist as well

they're going to present at a pnt

committee meeting they're going to serve

on a hospital committee

they're going to design and develop

order sets and then

see how that's implemented in an

electronic health record

they're also going to get hands-on

experience with precepting students

so we have our residents serve as the

primary preceptor

and what that means is that they're

involved in all aspects of the rotation

from the very beginning where they

design the calendar and the schedule for

the student

to providing those patient and topic

discussions

as well as the formal written and verbal

feedback for the student

i think the residency program does a

really great job for autonomy for myself

and the pgy ones

where i am rounding alone i am the face

the pharmacy for my team i'm the point

of contact making my own interventions

but still having my preceptor available

as backup if i have any questions

i absolutely love that as residents

we're able to respond to codes and we

take turns

on call responding to those code

emergencies and i've really been able to

make an

impact at multiple codes and make

meaningful interventions for patients

important things that we use every day

our pharmacists collaborate with our

medical residents and our

our critical care physicians to to work

on projects to help

move care forward in our icu and across

our health system

i'm most proud of in our program the

involvement that our pgy2 critical care

resident has

with other multi-disciplinary teams so

this campus

actually houses usc university of south

carolina pharmacy school

and medical school and we also have

clemson nursing school

as well as many different residencies

for medicine and

medicine fellowships that are located

all right here on campus

our pgy2 resident teaches at the medical

school and they also teach at the

pharmacy school

and so those are great experiences that

they leave here with

greenville is a wonderful city to live

in we are three hours from charleston

04:23

beach we're also three hours from the

04:24

mountains in tennessee and so it's

04:26

really a wonderful central location

my co-residents and i really enjoy going

downtown and going out to dinner or even

04:33

just walking around with all the shops

i feel very comfortable here i feel like

there's a very good work-life balance

but also

here at prisma we have the mentor

program where we always have our mentors

available to us

i feel like i could text my mentor at

any time if i had a problem

residency is hard but it's really worth

it and i really enjoyed
