PGY2 Pharmacy Residency (Infectious Diseases) Greenville - Director's Welcome
Thank you for your interest in the PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency at Prisma Health-Upstate. I am honored you are considering this program, and believe we have a competitive program to offer you. Our program is in the first year of having a resident and we are looking forward to them joining the legacy of successful clinicians and pharmacy leaders our institution has produced for several decades.
I began my post-residency career at Greenville Memorial Hospital (GMH), the flagship hospital for Prisma Health-Upstate, in 2004 as the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist for Infectious Diseases (ID), rounding with the ID consult service, facilitating antimicrobial formulary management, developing antimicrobial policies and procedures, and precepting pharmacy and medical residents and students. In 2016, I transitioned into my current role as the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) Coordinator for Prisma Health—Upstate, which encompasses eight hospital campuses and numerous provider practices in the Upstate of South Carolina. I have actively participated in the growth and expansion of the pharmacy department, the hospital, and health system, specifically the infectious diseases pharmacy services provided.
Our ID inpatient service line has significantly expanded over the past few years with the addition of an ID Physician Fellowship in 2021, expanding the provider group from eight to ten, and the implementation of ID telemedicine services for the outlying Upstate campuses. Infectious diseases pharmacy services are also expanding into outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT) and transitions of care (TOC) with an additional dedicated position beginning in late 2023.
The ID clinical pharmacy team at GMH currently includes four ID PGY2-trained, board-certified ID pharmacotherapy specialists who are highly motivated, and dedicated to the provision and expansion of ID services and the education and training of multidisciplinary healthcare professionals. We work collaboratively to individualize the residency experience while assuring our residents meet and exceed the goals of our residency programs while maintaining a healthy work life balance.
The addition of an ID PGY2 residency is welcome and necessary given the overall expansion and opportunities available in infectious diseases at GMH. I am proud to have cultivated a love of ID in dozens of pharmacy students, PGY1, and PGY2 pharmacy residents and I am excited to continue nurturing resident development as the program director for our ID PGY2 Pharmacy Residency at GMH. I know that our program will provide you with comprehensive infectious diseases training leading to rewarding and diverse career opportunities.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about our program. Please don’t hesitate to reach with any additional questions. My colleagues and I look forward to meeting you.
