PGY2 Pharmacy Residency (Infectious Diseases) Greenville - Learning Experiences
Program requirements
The residency year consists of twelve (12) one-month rotations and some longitudinal learning experiences. The twelve (12) experiences are broken down into nine (9) required core rotations, (2) elective rotations selected by the resident, and a dedicated research month in December. The elective experiences below are the ones currently being offered, and our program is always looking to build new experiences where staffing allows. We also try to tailor the year to the resident’s needs and interests as much as possible.
Core Rotations
- Orientation and microbiology laboratory
- Adult Infectious Diseases Consult Service (2 months)
- Adult Antimicrobial Stewardship (2 months)
- Community Hospital Stewardship/Telemedicine
- Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy and Transitions of Care
- Adult Immunocompromised Service (blood and marrow transplant OR solid organ transplant)
- Infectious Diseases Ambulatory Care
- Preceptorship Rotation (during ID Consult)
Elective Rotations
- Pediatric General / Infectious Diseases Consults / Antimicrobial Stewardship
- Emergency Medicine
- Adult Critical Care (Medical or Surgical/Trauma ICU)
- Internal Medicine
- Others based on resident interest, including repeating a previous rotation but with a different emphasis
Longitudinal Experiences
- Leadership and practice management
- Clinical On-Call / Clinical Consult Service
- Weekend order entry / Unit-based staffing every 3rd weekend
- Clinical Research Project to be presented at the Southeastern Residency Conference (SERC) with goals of poster presentation at infectious disease-focused meeting and subsequent publication
- Medicine Use Evaluation (MUE)
- Quality Improvement Project
- University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy Clinical Teaching Certificate Program (if not obtained during PGY1)
