  • Pediatric Infectious Disease/Antimicrobial Stewardship I
  • Pediatric Special Care Clinic
Candidates who completed a pediatric-focused PGY1:
  • Orientation
  • General Pediatrics II
  • Pediatric ICU I
  • Pediatric ICU II
  • Neonatal ICU I
  • Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
  • Pediatric Infectious Disease/Antimicrobial Stewardship I
  • Pediatric Special Care Clinic

Candidates who are focusing on pediatric infectious diseases will have additional requirements with the Microbiology lab, Pediatric Infectious Diseases Outpatient Clinic and repeated learning experiences with Pediatric Infectious Diseases/Antimicrobial Stewardship.

  • Gastroenterology (inpatient consults/outpatient clinic).
  • Hematology/oncology (outpatient clinic/Sickle cell clinic).
  • Microbiology lab
  • Nephrology (inpatient consults/outpatient clinic).
  • Neurology (inpatient consults/outpatient clinic).
  • Pediatric Infectious Disease outpatient clinic.
  • Pulmonology (Cystic Fibrosis Center).
  • Rheumatology (inpatient consults/outpatient clinic).

Other experiences

UofSC College of Pharmacy Clinical Teaching Certificate Program
  • The Clinical Teaching Certificate (CTC) Program is a structured educational program to enhance teaching and precepting skills, allowing pharmacists to become confident and motivational educators in both academic and clinical pharmacy settings.
Prisma Health/UofSC School of Medicine Simulation Center
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support Course (PALS) – Required.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
  • Pediatric Mock Code Training.

Residency program requirements

  • Major research project (final presentation at Pediatric Pharmacy Association (PPA) annual meeting).
  • Submit one publication submission to a peer-reviewed journal.
  • Disease state discussions.
  • Present Grand rounds (or ACPE-accredited pharmacist CE).
  • Resident case presentation or “Lunch and Learn.”
  • Serve as course co-coordinator for the pediatrics elective at USC College of Pharmacy.
  • Precept students from the USC College of Pharmacy.
  • Participation in Discover USC (poster presentations with medical residents/fellows, pharmacy residents, medical students, post-doctoral fellows and graduate students).
  • Staffing (one weekend per month).
  • Medication Use Evaluation.
