PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency Columbia - Program Details

Prisma Health Children's Hospital–Midlands / University of South Carolina

PGY2 Pediatric Residency Program

PGY2 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals and objectives for advanced practice areas. Residents who successfully complete this PGY2 residency program are prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, and board certification in the advanced practice area of pediatrics.

All PGY2 residency graduates exit our program equipped to be fully-integrated members of the interdisciplinary pediatric medical team, able to make complex medication recommendations in this unique patient population. Our training focuses on developing the resident with capabilities to understand a wide range of diseases and disorders that occur in patients from the neonatal period to adolescents. Graduates are experienced in clinical pediatric research and excel in their ability to teach other health professionals (including student health professionals). They also acquire the experience necessary to exercise leadership of pediatric pharmacy practice in the health system.

Tailoring your year with a focus

We provide you with the option to maximize your choices for a successful career direction. Our program allows our residents to tailor the second half of their residency year with a focus in Pediatric Infectious Diseases/Antimicrobial Stewardship. Having a focused PGY2 allows our residents to stand out when looking for careers in pediatric infectious diseases.
