Prisma Health Simulation Center – Columbia

Providing dedicated, comprehensive medical simulation resources for health care providers and learners of all levels.

Simulation-based training for physicians, nurses and more

The Prisma Health-Midlands Simulation Center (PHMSC) opened in 2007 to support simulation-based training for physicians, nurses, resident physicians, technicians, respiratory therapists, medical students, pharmacists and EMS providers.

Health care simulation is focused on education, assessment, research, and health system quality integration. To accomplish the mission of the Simulation Center, the latest technology in high-fidelity simulators, audio/visual technology and sound educational competencies have been developed by nursing and physician faculty. Since its inception, there has been steady growth both in technology and utilization of the Simulation Center.

Our center is located at Prisma Health Baptist, 1301 Taylor Street, Suite 4M, located on the 4th Floor in Columbia, South Carolina, and includes four classrooms and nine simulation rooms over 8,000 square feet of space. Equipped with manikin technology that includes adult, child and infant patient simulators, our video and data capture system allows for easy assessment and debriefing of student performance.

Accreditation

In 2012, Prisma Health-Midlands Simulation Center became the 21st training facility in the world to receive accreditation from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). Our center earned reaccreditation in 2017 and 2022 to include the areas of Teaching/Education and System Integration. SSH accreditation is the highest honor attainable by a center in recognition of its efforts in operations, health care system integration, and teaching standards.

This international accreditation validates the daily efforts of our staff and teaching faculty who utilize the Simulation Center. We offer the highest quality of training to our learners so that they can, in turn, provide outstanding care to our patients in the clinical domain.
