Cardiology Fellowship Columbia - How to Apply

Application information

Our program accepts applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). ERAS opens up July 1 each year for applications. We will participate in the National Resident Matching Program.

We like to review our applications the first week in August and interview in September and October of each year.

Eligibility

In addition to meeting any requirements specified in the Institutional Resident Eligibility policy, the applicants for the Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship program must satisfy one of the following:

  1. Be a graduate of:
    • An ACGME accredited internal medicine training program.
    • An ABOM internal medicine training program.
    • Medical school outside the U.S. with a valid certificate from Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
  2. Physician trainees who are not citizens of the U.S. must have immigrations authorization under the J-1 exchange visitor program.
  3. All applicants are required to complete an application form and submit it along with the following:
    • Medical School transcripts
    • Three letters of personal recommendations, including one from his/her program director
    • Passing scores on Steps 1, 2 and 3 of USMLE or COMLEX-USA
    • Current Curriculum Vitae
  4. All complete applications are reviewed by the program director, in accordance with our selection policy.
  5. Those applicants selected for interviews are interviewed by cardiology faculty.
  6. The Program Evaluation Committee meets to determine which candidates are granted interviews.

Selection

  1. Candidates will be chosen by the Cardiology Fellowship Program Evaluation Committee. (See our Eligibility Policy.) 
  2. Only interviewed applicants will be considered for a position in the program. 
  3.  Each candidate is objectively evaluated on the basis of their preparedness, ability, aptitude, academic credentials, prior training, publications/grants/scholarly activity, communication skills, motivations, integrity, compassion, dignity, excellence, and teamwork abilities.
  4. Order of applicant rank is to be determined by the overall evaluation of the applicant based on the above criteria.
  5. Characteristics such as sex, race, age, religion, color, national origin, disability or veteran status are not used in the selection procedure.
