Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Columbia - Director's Welcome

Welcome to the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Program at Prisma Health and the University of South Carolina Columbia.

Our discipline of child psychiatry is experiencing a time of unparalleled growth in the ability to improve children's lives as diagnostic and therapeutic interventions expand. To be a superb child psychiatrist requires a passion for learning, the perseverance to master a variety of therapy skills for working with children and their families, and a genuine enjoyment of interacting with youth.

To help children achieve mental health, our focus must be on helping individual children in the context of family and community, promoting resiliency, and helping the child to acquire the skills needed to deal with emotional difficulties. Our training program is dedicated to helping you develop these skills and becoming an outstanding child psychiatrist.

We believe that the learning environment is of the utmost importance in helping you acquire the necessary knowledge and skills. Our program has established a reputation for combining high standards and close supervision by committed faculty in an atmosphere that is warm and supportive. We are also committed to helping each fellow as they explore their own areas of special interest, and supporting their unique interest in teaching, research and advocacy.

In addition to a strong didactic curriculum, our training program enjoys access to a rich variety of clinical training sites that prepare residents for careers in academics, private practice or public psychiatry. We believe you will find our program exciting and challenging — an excellent opportunity to prepare for your future.
