Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Greenville - Training Facilities

Marshall I. Pickens Hospital is located on the main campus of Prisma Health, next to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital.  Here, there is an access to a complete spectrum of care to diagnose and treat psychiatric disorders in children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.  The child and adolescent inpatient program is designed to serve youths ages 6 to 17 who are unable to be managed in an outpatient setting.  The emotional, physical, and educational needs of each patient are assessed and treated with the goal of stabilization. The treatment also involves a large component of family therapy and intensive family involvement.

Consults are seen at Prisma Health Children’s Hospital which is a level II trauma center and the largest children’s hospital in the upstate that provides care for over 400,000 infants, children, and adolescents each year.  Consultation problems tend to be complex involving assisting families and children as well as providing brief crisis support or therapy and beginning psychoactive medication as well as organizing disposition issues and interfacing with the medical teams.

The Child Psychiatry and Psychotherapy Clinic is an outpatient psychiatric clinic that provides psychiatric and psychological services for children.  It is an outpatient clinic that is embedded within a pediatrics outpatient center on the Patewood Medical Campus.  Patients are seen for evaluation, medication management, and therapy.  In addition to providing training opportunities for the child psychiatry fellows, this center also provides training opportunities for trainees in the general pediatrics program and developmental and behavioral pediatrics.

The Greater Greenville Mental Health Center is an outpatient facility of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health and provides quality Mental Health Services to adults, children, and adolescents, and their families. The program for children, adolescents, and their families consists of professionally trained staff and provides a wide range of services for youth suffering from depression, behavior problems, poor peer relationships, withdrawal, physical and sexual abuse, and for adolescents who are functioning below their expected level.  These services place a strong emphasis on family involvement and includes close work with assisting community agencies.
