Endocrine specialty training and research opportunities

Clinics

Fellows participate weekly at the endocrine and diabetes clinic at the Dorn VA Medical Center, as well as at the daily referral clinic at the Department of Medicine offices adjacent to Prisma Health Richland Hospital.

Fellows see typical and atypical endocrine problems at both institutions and are instructed in performing thyroid ultrasound, ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration of the thyroid and bone density measurement.

Conferences and didactics

Conferences include weekly clinical conference, journal club, and board review. Fellows are responsible for literature reviews on assigned topics relating to current clinical problems for presentation at the weekly clinical conferences and for supervision of students and residents rotating in the endocrine service.

Research

The Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism provides opportunities for basic and clinical research. Faculty members within the division act as mentors. Each fellow is expected to present research results at a national meeting and publish original investigations.
