Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery – Greenville - Program Details
The fellowship in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at Prisma Health in the Upstate is designed to provide exposure to all aspects of pelvic surgery in a modern, tertiary care hospital setting. Fellows will spend most of their operative time at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital where they will work with core faculty members in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine–Greenville. As a department that performs more than 3,000 benign operative procedures per year and provides instruction to 24 residents in obstetrics and gynecology along with countless medical students, there is ample opportunity for fellows to flourish in a true academic environment.
Program features
Fellows will be exposed to a broad surgical experience in all aspects of laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, and robotic- assisted surgery.
All fellows will be given junior faculty status and will be responsible for participating in didactic instruction to residents and students for which they will be evaluated.
In the outpatient setting, they will have one half-day clinic of their own for pre- and post-operative evaluation of patients supervised by a faculty member. Further opportunities exist to accompany MIGS faculty in their own clinics where fellows will gain experience with outpatient procedures such as hysteroscopy (diagnostic and operative), sonography, and sonohysterography, as well as participating in a longitudinal clinic focused on chronic pelvic pain.
Our department includes a robust clinical research division that employs 10 clinical research specialists and an embedded PhD with special expertise in women's health. Over the course of the two-year fellowship, fellows will be expected to design and complete a prospective research project for presentation and publication before the end of their second year. Intramural funding for projects is available, although application for extramural grants and awards is both encouraged and facilitated by a system-based Office of Research Services.
In addition to PGY-5 and PGY-6 salaries, all fellows will receive an educational stipend to cover the cost of travel and lodging to the annual AAGL meeting as well as the cost of membership in the AAGL and ACOG.
