The Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship at Prisma Health was developed and received OTA accreditation in 2018. We are based at Greenville Memorial Hospital, a 814-bed tertiary care hospital that is ACS Level I certified. The program accepts one fellow per academic year (August-July). Due to COVID-19, we will not be hosting in-person interviews this year. Virtual informational sessions will be held in September and October, with virtual interviews taking place in 2021. More details regarding the informational sessions and match process can be found on the OTA’s website and sfmatch.org. We look forward to hearing from you.
Background
Prisma Health has a robust history of excellence in orthopaedic education as evidenced by the very successful orthopaedic residency program. The faculty of the Orthopaedic Trauma Service prides itself on being the cornerstone of this program. While we will maintain this dedication to resident education, we believe that trauma fellowship education is the next logical step for our service. With 4 full-time, fellowship-trained trauma faculty and appropriate trauma volume and complexity, we have the capacity and opportunity to provide an outstanding and unique educational opportunity for a fellow.
Beyond the traditional offerings of a trauma fellowship, the variety of subspecialty interests within our team allows the fellow to gain competency in:
- Complex hip arthroplasty for failed fixation or post-traumatic conditions
- Multi-ligament knee reconstruction
- Reconstructive procedures for the elbow including arthroplasty and ligament reconstruction
Goals for the fellowship
- Understand the complexities and priorities in the care of the polytraumatized patient
- Become adept at complex peri-articular fracture management to include the pelvis and acetabulum
- Develop proficiency in the treatment of nonunion, malunion, and musculoskeletal infections
- Become an effective teacher and have a productive research year
- Gain experience regarding administrative aspects of directing an orthopedic trauma service including resource management, performance improvement, materials purchasing and management
