Sports Medicine Fellowship (Primary Care) Columbia - Curriculum

Sports medicine educational experiences

Fellows have weekly patient care experiences in the following clinics:
  • Student health clinic, two half-days per week.
  • MSK clinic, one half-day per week in the family medicine clinic.
  • Primary care sports medicine clinics/orthopedic clinics, two half-days per week.
  • Continuity clinic, one half-day per week.
  • Rotation-specific clinics, four half-days per week.

Rotations are designed to expose the fellow to a true diversity of primary care sports medicine. Rotation offerings include: concussion, exercise physiology, foot and ankle, hand, hip, neurology, nutrition, orthotics and prosthetics, pediatric orthopedics, physical therapy/rehabilitation, spine, radiology, and rheumatology.

Additionally, there are didactic sessions that cover a full spectrum of topics in primary care sports medicine throughout the fellowship year. There are longitudinal sessions that focus specifically on anatomy and sports psychiatry. Journal club meets every other month and fellows are asked to select and review a research article of their choice.

The curriculum is rounded out with case presentations, ultrasound sessions, radiology rounds, and leadership development opportunities.
