Meet our faculty
Throughout their training, our fellows work one-on-one with our sports medicine faculty. Clinics are designed to offer hands-on learning experiences. Our program’s strong ties with other departments ensure that fellows receive a well-rounded education in primary care sports medicine.
Leadership
Primary Care Sports Medicine
Zoë Foster, MD, joined the Department of Family and Preventative Medicine at Prisma Health and the University of South Carolina in 2019 as the Program Director for the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship. She currently sees patients at the University of South Carolina's Student Health Service, treating both students and student athletes in the sports medicine department.
Additionally, Dr. Foster serves as Medical Director for the University of South Carolina Athletics Department. She is the team physician for the sports of women’s basketball, beach volleyball, cross country, softball, women’s tennis, women’s track and field, and volleyball.
Prior to moving to South Carolina, Foster was the team physician for the University of Michigan softball and field hockey teams as well as the men’s basketball team at Eastern Michigan University while working as a family medicine physician in southeast Michigan.
Jeffrey Wisinski, DO, joined the faculty of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 2023 as the Assistant Program Director of the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship. He completed his primary care sports medicine fellowship at Penn State Health in State College, Pennsylvania. He also completed his residency with Allegheny Health Network Forbes Family Medicine in Monroeville, PA, where he served as chief resident.
Dr. Wisinski oversees a weekly musculoskeletal clinic and weekly family medicine clinic at Prisma Health Family Medicine that provides education for fellows, residents and medical students. One of his main goals in teaching is to help physicians utilize osteopathic medicine in the clinical setting. He has developed an OMT longitudinal curriculum for the primary care sports medicine fellowship, while participating in weekly didactics, and assisting with the musculoskeletal medicine curriculum for the Prisma Health Family Medicine residency.
Clinically, he serves as a primary care physician with a specific expertise in sports medicine, utilizing OMT, home exercise program counseling, trigger point injections and musculoskeletal ultrasound when evaluating and treating musculoskeletal symptoms. He provides care for Hammond High School athletics and is a team physician for the University of South Carolina.
A graduate of Penn State University in State College, Pennsylvania, Dr. Wisinski earned a Bachelor of Science in General Science as well as a minor in Psychology. He completed his medical education, receiving a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Kyle Arthur, MD, graduated in 2012 from medical school at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas. He completed his residency and fellowship at University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and returned to his hometown of Springfield, Missouri, for 2 1/2 years to work in private practice, covering Drury University and Evangel University Athletics. He and his wife moved to Columbia in 2019, where he enjoys working with UofSC, South Carolina State, and Newberry College Athletics.

Brian Keisler, MD, joined the faculty of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 2005 after completing a primary care sports medicine fellowship with Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia, South Carolina. He completed a residency with Cabarrus Family Medicine Residency at Northeast Medical Center in Concord, North Carolina, serving as chief resident during his final year.
Dr. Keisler oversees a weekly musculoskeletal clinic at Prisma Health Family Medicine that provides education for fellows, residents and medical students, in addition to specialized care for patients. He is a regular participant in Sports Medicine didactics, has a special interest in education and has won several teaching awards.
Keisler's other academic focus is on medical student education and he serves as the Assistant Dean for Clinical Curriculum and Assessment for the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia. He has served on various committees for both the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia and Prisma Health.
A graduate of the University of South Carolina in Columbia, Keisler earned a bachelor of science in biology. He completed his medical education, receiving a doctor of medicine, from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia.

Matthew R. Pollack, MD, received his medical degree and a master’s degree in physiology from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond. He completed his residency in family medicine at Trident Health System in Charleston and completed a sports medicine fellowship at the Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama. Prior to his medical training, he received his undergraduate degree in biology from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Dr. Pollack serves as a team physician for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks, as well as numerous other colleges and universities. He previously served as a primary care and sports medicine physician with Palmetto Primary Care Physicians in Charleston. He specializes in providing patients of all ages non-operative sports medicine care.
An expert in concussion management, Pollack is trained in using ImPACT computerized concussion evaluation software. He also is skilled in providing comprehensive orthopedic care using the latest in ultrasound technology. He is able to provide various in-office ultrasound guided joint and soft tissue injections as well as viscosupplementation injections for knee arthritis.
Pollack is experienced in regenerative medicine including Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Stem Cell injections. He currently serves as a clinical assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, is directly involved in the sports medicine fellowship program and provides training for new sports medicine physicians.
Jason Stacy, MD, is director of the Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy Departments within Student Health Services at the University of South Carolina. He is a former team physician and former fellowship director. Dr. Stacy remains involved with fellow education as a clinical adjunct professor working with fellows seeing patients together at the University Student Health Center.
Stacy is married to Jennifer Soroos, MD, a pediatrician for Palmetto Pediatrics in Columbia, South Carolina. They have two children, Jack and Juliana. His main interests outside of medicine include exercise, travel, fishing, and watching Wisconsin sport teams.

Orthopedic Sports Medicine
Gregory Grabowski, MD, graduated from the University of Richmond in 2000 and spent the following year in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps assigned to an HIV clinic in Baltimore. He attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where he was elected to the AOA honors medical society. He completed his residency at the University of Vermont, where he was named the top orthopedic teaching resident, and completed a fellowship in orthopedic spine surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Dr. Grabowski joined the University of South Carolina School of Medicine faculty in 2011 and is a clinical assistant professor of orthopedic surgery. Dr. Grabowski's primary interests include care for patients with pathology in all areas of the spine, including cervical and lumbar, particularly spinal stenosis and deformity. He believes in a balanced approach to spine care, including non-operative management when possible and surgical intervention when necessary. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and North American Spine Society.
Jeffrey Guy, MD, received his medical degree and residency training at Harvard University. He completed fellowships in trauma at Massachusetts General Hospital and pediatric sports medicine at Boston Childrens Hospital, and finished his training with a fellowship in sports medicine under the direction of Drs. James Andrews and Bill Clancy at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Ala.
Dr. Guy is currently a clinical professor within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and Director of the University of South Carolina Sports Medicine Center. In addition, he serves as medical director of the Athletic Training Education Program in the College of Education and adjunct professor within the USC Arnold School of Public Health Department of Exercise Science.
Dr. Guy is a team physician for the University of South Carolina Athletics Department, is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, American Sports Medicine Institute Fellowship Society, Clinical Orthopaedic Society, and the South Carolina Medical Association.
J. Benjamin Jackson III, MD, completed his undergraduate education at Mars Hill College in Asheville, North Carolina, where he competed in cross country and track and field at the Division II level. He completed medical school at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, where he served as student body president. Dr. Jackson completed his orthopedic residency at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he received the resident teaching award. He completed a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at the University of Utah and currently serves as a clinical assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.
Dr. Jackson’s clinical interests include patients with injuries and disorders of the foot and ankle. He has a strong interest in research and has written numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He believes he can improve the outcomes of his patients through quality research and individualized patient care. Outside of the office, he enjoys spending time with his wife and four boys and officiating collegiate and professional soccer.
Christopher G. Mazoué, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery and the treatment of complex shoulder, elbow and knee injuries at Prisma Health. He serves as department chair and is a clinical associate professor of orthopedic surgery with the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.
Dr. Mazoué attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he received a bachelor's degree in economics and won an Ivy League championship in football. He received his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, where he was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honors Medical Society. He then completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Following residency, he completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama, under the guidance of renowned orthopedic surgeons James Andrews, MD, and William Clancy, MD.
With extensive experience caring for athletes at all levels, Mazoué has treated patients from youth to professional leagues. He provides care for numerous local middle schools, high schools and colleges. He has served as team physician for South Carolina State University, where he was elected into the South Carolina State Athletic Hall of Fame for his service to the university. He has been a team physician for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks for over fifteen years and is a consultant for Coastal Carolina University. He also serves as chairman of the South Carolina Medical Association Medical Aspects of Sports Medicine Committee.
Mazoué’s clinical expertise includes complex shoulder and elbow surgery, shoulder reconstruction, shoulder replacement and complex knee injuries. This includes arthroscopic shoulder stabilization, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and superior capsular reconstruction, total/reverse shoulder replacements, arthroscopic elbow surgery, elbow reconstruction and repair including “Tommy John” surgery, arthroscopic knee surgery to include meniscus debridement and/or repair, ligament reconstruction including ACL repair/reconstruction and repair/reconstruction of multi-ligamentous knee injuries, knee cartilage repair/replacement techniques and knee osteotomies for malalignment.
Mazoué is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), the Southern Orthopaedic Association (SOA) and the South Carolina Orthopaedic Association (SCOA). Mazoué was elected to the American Orthopedic Association, the oldest orthopedic association in the United States, in June 2018. He has numerous publications and gives lectures locally, regionally and nationally.
Frank K. Noojin III, MD, received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine at Birmingham. He completed his internship and residency at University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, and completed a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at the Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Jackson. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. His specialties and clinical interests include knee cartilage repair, hip arthroscopy, femoroacetabular impingement surgery and hip preservation, elbow arthroscopy, ACL reconstruction, general hand surgery, osteotomies about the knee, rotator cuff surgery and treatment of shoulder instability.
John J. Walsh IV, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon at Prisma Health and a clinical professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia. He previously served as clinic director and staff orthopedic surgeon at Moncrief Army Community Hospital at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina.
Dr. Walsh received his bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Delaware in Newark and his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He completed an orthopedic surgery residency and a transitional internship at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon, Georgia, and completed his fellowship in hand surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Walsh is board certified in orthopedic surgery and has a certificate of added qualification in surgery of the hand. He has lectured internationally on a broad range of general orthopedic and upper extremity surgical conditions. He is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the Christian Medical Society. His primary interests are hand and upper extremity surgery, joint replacement of the shoulder and elbow and reconstructive osteotomies for bone deformity. He is also interested in reconstruction for brachial plexus injuries.
Sports Medicine Fellowship Faculty
Jeffrey P. Holloway, MD, received his bachelor's degree in biology from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, and his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. He completed his residency in pediatrics at Prisma Health/University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia, and a fellowship in primary care sports medicine at UofSC. He is board certified in sports medicine and pediatrics.
Dr. Holloway has been a clinical assistant professor of pediatrics at the UofSC School of Medicine since 2011 and served as a UofSC team physician for five years. He developed a pediatric musculoskeletal clinic at Prisma Health Children's Hospital in collaboration with the pediatric rheumatology in the Upstate and use of telemedicine to care for kids with joint pain. He serves as medical director at the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice and the Prisma Health Pediatric Concussion Clinic.
Born in Fiji and raised in Mobile, Alabama, Dr. Jay Patel currently serves as adirector of research at Prisma Health Orthopedics. A former multisport athlete at the high school and collegiate level, Dr. Patel has vast knowledge and experience in the application of scientific assessments to improve athletic performance and reduce injuries. He received his bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences, a master’s degree in exercise science and a PhD in kinesiology with specializations in anatomy and sport biomechanics from Auburn University. While at Auburn, he worked closely with the athletics department’s strength and conditioning staff as well as several varsity athletic teams as a sport biomechanics consultant.
An expert in the field, Dr. Patel is a sought-after guest lecturer and publisher and has worked with professional and Olympic-level athletes. He also has served as a personal trainer for almost a decade, a mixed martial arts and tae kwon do instructor, an instructor of biomechanics and an instructor of anatomy and strength and conditioning. Dr. Patel holds certifications including Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association; Corrective Exercise Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine; and Functional Movement Screening certified through Functional Movement Systems.
Y. Swamy Venkatesh, MD, DM, FRCP, FAAN, FACP, graduated from Bangalore Medical College and trained in internal medicine at the University of the West Indies. He was a fellow in endocrinology at MD Anderson Cancer Center and later finished his residency and fellowship training in EMG/clinical neurophysiology and neuromuscular disease. His research interests include diabetic neuropathy, spinal cord reflexes in CRPS, novel uses of botulinum toxin and vascular neurology.
