Meet our current fellows

Kristian De Nagel, MD

Kristian De Nagel, MD

Kris De Nagel, MD, was raised in Rockledge, Florida. While attending high school, he enlisted in the Florida Army National Guard as a medic. He later went on to pursue his undergraduate education at Florida State University in Tallahassee, earning his bachelor's degree in exercise science. Dr. De Nagel's further education includes a master's degree in health with a focus on exercise science and physiology through the University of North Florida graduate program. He attended St. George's University in Grenada for medical school, and later completed a family medicine residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Northwest program.

“Why did I choose the Prisma Health/USC fellowship?"
"After meeting everyone, I instantly felt welcomed. There is a warm atmosphere that I just didn’t find anywhere else. Additionally, the curriculum is diverse and well-rounded. We can not only participate in a multitude of sports/athletic opportunities, including Division I athletics, but also offer comprehensive ultrasound training. I was especially interested in learning more about exercise science and physiology, and the University of South Carolina has an amazing program.

Having a warm and welcoming environment with a well-rounded education was paramount to me. There was no question about where I wanted to go, this program has it all!”

Dr. De Nagel enjoys weightlifting/power lifting, hiking, video and board games, and traveling.

Emma York, MD

Emma York, MD

Emma York, DO, was born and raised in Lorton, Virginia. She attended the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where she majored in biology. She then attended Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine for medical school in Blacksburg, Virginia, and Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk for her residency training in family medicine.

Dr. York chose Prisma Health/University of South Carolina for her sports medicine fellowship because of its diverse training opportunities, including being first call for the Gamecocks Division I teams, ultrasound and procedure training throughout the year, and multiple teaching opportunities. The program altogether felt like the right fit academically while also supporting her long-term goals of leadership, teaching and working in a multidisciplinary team.

In her free time, Dr. York enjoys spending time with her husband and dog, surfing, cooking, building furniture for her home and traveling.
