00:17
my name is scott annette i'm the
00:18
program director for the personal health
00:20
university of south carolina greenville
00:21
primary care sports medicine fellowship
00:23
so i think about things that kind of
00:24
make this program here in greenville a
00:26
little bit special one would certainly
00:27
be the faculty every year when we do our
00:29
program annual review
00:31
the primary care sports faculty are
00:32
mentioned as is probably our best asset
00:34
here
00:35
we're embedded within the steppen
00:36
hawkins clinic of the carolinas which is
00:38
a fantastic
00:39
world-renowned orthopedic practice and
00:41
all the surgeons are easily accessible
00:43
they are fantastic teachers and they
00:45
just love what they do
00:46
so it's just a really diverse group of
00:48
people with similar academic interests
00:49
that get together and can really feed
00:51
off of each other in a nice learning
00:56
environment name is josh pacious i
00:59
joined the fellowship here a year ago i
01:01
was looking for a program that
01:03
had a wide base and a lot of support and
01:06
i think that
01:07
is what i found here and perhaps more so
01:10
than some of the other programs that i
01:11
was looking at
01:12
also located in an awesome city
01:15
greenville
01:15
and the location the culture between
01:18
that and
01:18
the new variety of stem and hawkins and
01:21
kind of what they've done over the last
01:22
decade
01:23
are all factors that kind of went into
01:25
my decision making to come here
01:29
my name is christina gouda i am one of
01:31
the sports fellows here
01:33
at the stephen hawkins clinic of the
01:34
carolinas through prisma health
01:36
i knew a lot about this fellowship just
01:38
from being around the area and
01:39
interviewed multiple different places
01:41
this is a very high volume
01:43
type practice high volume clinic and
01:45
that was one thing that was really
01:46
important to me and just the ability to
01:48
do a lot of different sports
01:50
experiences whether that's at the high
01:52
school level mass events
01:54
college coverage just the wide breadth
01:56
of that
01:57
we're able to do a lot of kind of unique
01:59
pathways and different international
02:00
experiences so
02:02
some of that is done through usa karate
02:03
so we're the team physicians for them
02:05
and so the fellows are
02:06
are able to go all around the world when
02:08
you come here to greenville you'll go to
02:10
one national event for me that was in
02:13
chicago and then you go to one
02:14
international event and i went to
02:16
ecuador
02:17
which is really unique having that
02:20
opportunity to go abroad for a week week
02:22
and a half was
02:23
awesome so getting to work with you know
02:25
athletes and
02:26
also getting to explore like a whole new
02:29
city south america that i haven't
02:30
been to before was a lot of fun every
02:33
fellow has passed their caq which is
02:35
always kind of a benchmark
02:37
we've had 100 pass rate on our boards
02:39
for the entire time that we've had the
02:41
fellowship so hopefully we keep that up
02:43
here
02:43
this year that is really a flexible
02:46
curriculum
02:46
if we need to adjust schedules if
02:48
they're busy in the training room maybe
02:50
i'll give them an extra day off
02:51
we've never really had any issues with
02:52
people being you know burned out or
02:54
overwhelmed
02:55
and i think part of the reason for that
02:57
is i'm doing something i really enjoy
02:59
and it's a brief year in the sense that
03:01
it flies by
03:03
from day one you are connected with a
03:05
mentor
03:06
that is an attending within our program
03:09
and they're here for you
03:11
what they've offered me over the last
03:13
year i can
03:14
definitely say that i've become a better
03:16
doctor and also clinician kind of moving
03:19
forward
03:19
the collegiality has especially been
03:21
helpful when you're looking at jobs
03:23
after fellowship because we have a wide
03:26
net that can be spread from just our
03:27
primary care sports medicine
03:29
attendings and the connections that they
03:30
have and so that was really helpful from
03:32
a networking perspective
03:35
i accepted a job opportunity with the
03:37
center for family medicine which is the
03:39
family medicine residency here i'll be
03:42
coming on as junior faculty
03:44
i'm going into urgent care and sports
03:46
medicine after this so
03:48
i really want to tailor my second half
03:49
of the year to more fracture management
03:52
more acute management just
03:55
the the wide variety of attendings that
03:57
we have the wide variety of sports
03:59
experiences that we have really
04:00
sets us apart from other programs
04:18
you
