Research & Scholarly Activity

Sports medicine fellows are required to participate in a research project. They have time allotted each week for this scholarly activity. Fellows are expected to submit research and case presentations to the AMSSM Annual Meeting, SEACSM Regional meeting and ACSM Annual Meeting (at a minimum).

Each year in July the sports medicine fellow(s) will attend the Annual American Medical Society for Sports Medicine’s Fellows Research Conference. The two to three-day educational experience provides the fellow with information on clinical study design and implementation, bio-statistical analysis and clinical inquiry and the use of computerized databases.

This conference also provides instruction in proper methods to utilize when critically evaluating the medical literature. The sports medicine fellow will refine these skills with required monthly meetings to review the research project, where they are given feedback and direction during the year. Journal Club meets monthly addressing evaluation of medical literature, clinical epidemiology, clinical study and design.
