Sports Medicine (Primary Care) Greenville - Fellows
I have deep roots in upstate South Carolina. I was raised in Simpsonville and ultimately went to college at Furman University. From there, I moved to Atlanta, GA where I obtained an MPH thinking that would be the end of my educational endeavors. Boy, was I in for a surprise. After some soul searching, I realized my calling for clinical medicine and returned to school to complete pre-medical coursework through the Post-Baccalaureate Program at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA. All of this occurred over about 4 years and during that time Atlanta became my second home and it is also where I met the woman who is now my wife.
I moved back to Greenville for medical school at USC SOMG, and arrived knowing I had a strong interest in Primary Care Sports Medicine. My third rotation with the the program at what was then Greenville Health System sealed the deal that this was my ideal specialty. I eventually decided to go through emergency medicine for my residency training as I was drawn to the management of acute and catastrophic illness/injury. I completed my residency training at UPMC-Harrisburg in Harrisburg, PA, where I was fortunate enough to find very supportive faculty who helped me achieve my goals of returning south for fellowship training. I am incredibly excited to be back home with my wife, son, and two dogs. In my free time I love to hike, run, play guitar, play video games, grab beers with friends (or while making new friends), and spending quality time with my family. I am looking forward to busy, but engaging year of training in sports medicine and finding my niche within this diverse and growing specialty community.
I grew up in Asheville, North Carolina and have spent most of my life in one state north of my current residence. For my undergraduate studies I went to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I studied Sociology. After college I spent some time living overseas in Malaysia before deciding to pursue a career in medicine. I returned to UNC for medical school followed by residency in emergency medicine here in Greenville. Enjoying a broad range of athletics, further training in sports medicine was always a career path I desired, and I am thrilled to continue my training here at Prisma. The faculty, training environment, variety of pathology and sports coverage opportunities are second to none. I enjoy spending time with my wife and three children, golf, soccer, fly fishing and backpacking.
