The Prisma Health/University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia Vascular Neurology Fellowship Program
We are seeking a fellow interested in clinical stroke care, related research in the “Stroke Belt” and in functioning as a junior attending physician. The fellowship is ideally suited for those wanting a career as a stroke center director, neurohospitalist or academic neurologist. The fellowship provides a well-rounded comprehensive clinical experience and trains individuals to independently establish their own stroke center.
The multi-department, Joint Commission-Certified Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center at Prisma Health Richland Hospital is currently anchored by five board-certified stroke neurologists, three neurointensivists, four neurointerventionalists, two vascular neurosurgeons, three stroke research coordinators and advanced practice providers. The program comprises of a 24-bed stroke unit, 16-bed TIA observation unit, 16-bed neuroscience ICU with portable CT/CTA/CTP and 3-interventional suites located in the flagship hospital, which also houses the emergency room and a helipad geared to transport patients from across the state. The acute stroke team is geared to use the latest state of the art stroke, Teledoc Health tele-stroke robots and Viz-AI artificial intelligence imaging software accessible by smartphone.
Our program is in the “Buckle of the Stroke Belt” and sees over 1600 stroke/TIA patients annually including several rare and common cerebrovascular disorders.
The Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina, ranked as one of the top public health schools in the country, is the coordinating center for MRI-based Aphasia Treatment, as well as Robotic Rehabilitation Laboratory.
We are a site of phase-3 stem cell in stroke recovery trial. We are also an NIH-sponsored StrokeNet site. Neuroimaging is available including 3.0 T and 1.5 T MR Systems capable of rapid DWI/PWI/GRE, and a 250-detector spiral CT with CTA and CT perfusion with RAPID software used for extended thrombectomy window. The stroke program has a modern robotic Transcranial Doppler (TCD) and Carotid Ultrasound machine housed in a IGAVL certified vascular lab.

Applicants should be completing or should have completed neurology residency in the US.
