Dentistry Residency Columbia - Program Details
Our patients come from all walks of life – we operate as a private practice facility while continuing to fulfill the compassionate mission of the hospital. This affords residents the opportunity to understand and appreciate the treatment needs of patients from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
Patient care is the core of our residency
Since some of our patients are severely medically compromised, residents learn to integrate necessary medical management strategies into the dental treatment plan. Our residents provide consultations on inpatients and may render follow-up treatment, as needed. Treatment accomplished in the operating room gives a unique perspective on comprehensive care. This is especially true when the patient cannot cooperate for a routine pre-treatment examination and the care to be rendered must be determined at the time the patient is placed under general anesthesia.
Patient treatment is provided at Prisma Health Richland Hospital and WellPartners Adult and Children’s Clinics in Richland and Lexington counties. Each of these clinical settings is unique and has a specific emphasis that helps provide the resident with a well-rounded experience. The majority of clinical training occurs at the Richland Hospital campus.
