Division of Prehospital and Disaster Medicine
The Division of Prehospital and Disaster Medicine serves Prisma Health in integrating patient movement as well as excellent out of hospital care for our patients. Prehospital medicine requires the integration of hospital resources (e.g. mobile integrated healthcare, social work, case management, etc.) and specialty resources such as stroke neurology, interventional cardiology, trauma services, sepsis care, and others with law enforcement, fire, EMS, Department of Public Health, Emergency Preparedness, Department of Social Services, non-government agencies, private agencies, and the coroner’s office. Each of these entities serves a critical role in the prevention and treatment of our patients medical and traumatic ailments.
Our Division includes board certified Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medical Services physicians and board certified Emergency Physicians. The Division has years of experience in the different and unique aspects of Prehospital Medicine including mobile integrated healthcare, wilderness medicine, search and rescue, fire, law enforcement, maritime, disaster response, helicopter EMS, tactical EMS, hazardous materials, emergency preparedness, CBRNE response and management, and aquatic rescue/recovery. Additionally, it also has years of experience in medically educating clinicians at all levels including first responders, EMTs, AEMTS, paramedics, critical care paramedics, nurses, respiratory therapists, and physicians on the different aspects of prehospital medicine.
The Division supports our regional partners and communities by providing medical direction and medical oversight to field clinicians who provide medical care to patients in the prehospital environment. Its members develop and hone the most up-to-date medical protocols for those prehospital clinicians caring for patients in the field.
Please reach out to us if we can assist you with patient movement, prehospital care, or prehospital/hospital integrative activities. We also would welcome the opportunity to aid you with prehospital education to improve our care to the members of our communities.
