Emergency Medicine Residency Greenville - Chair's Welcome

Welcome to the Department of Emergency Medicine at Prisma Health and the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville (UofSC SOMG). It is truly my pleasure to introduce you to our Department, our services, and our faculty. Founded in 2014, our department has grown remarkably from a few dedicated faculty members to one of the largest clinical departments in the health system. Simply put, our vision is extraordinary, and we would love to share it with you.

Our Vision

We envision transforming emergency medicine through:

  • Providing compassionate, high-quality, patient-centered emergency care
  • Ensuring an outstanding patient experience
  • Embracing innovative care models
  • Leading academically in education
  • Service and research as we advance the art and science of Emergency Medicine

Our size, our healthcare system, and our community afford us the opportunity to fulfill this vision and to do great things clinically, academically, and in service. Our more than 260 faculty physicians, residents, and advanced practice providers currently provide care to over 350,000 patients a year in seven Emergency Departments.

Our Facility Highlights

Beyond their clinical service, our faculty actively teaches in the medical school, provides medical direction for regional ground and air emergency medical services systems, and provides service at the local, regional, and national level. We are continuing to expand our academic, service, and research portfolio.

In addition to a residency program founded in 2017, our department hosts two fellowships (Emergency Ultrasound and Medical Education, Design and Technology), a medical toxicology service and outpatient clinic, as well as a robust critical care program. We have successful placed our graduates into academic faculty positions, community practice, and a variety of fellowships (sports medicine, critical care, wilderness medicine, emergency ultrasound, and medical education).

Our Offerings

  • Diverse clinical practice environment (rural, community, Level I, free standing, pediatric EM)
  • Unparalleled educational opportunities for residents, students, and faculty
