Residents
As repeated as it is along the interview trail, it truly was the people that brought me here. Everyone from the residents to the faculty were so welcoming and had so much pride in this program that it was truly contagious. I knew that everyone in the program would be invested to help me become the best physician I could be. Besides the people, the emergency medicine residency program offers a great hybrid education between community and academic emergency medicine that allows me to keep an open mind about my future career throughout residency.
When I am not at work, you can find me taking a long walk with my fiancé and dog, cooking/baking, working out, or binging any season of Below Deck
Hi! I am Shefali. I was raised in West Virginia and went to medical school at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. I met my husband there, and we are very excited to spend the next few years in the beautiful city of Greenville. The residency program here is unmatched. If I’m not at the hospital, you will find me checking out a local restaurant and eating my weight in desserts, playing tennis or some other outdoor activity, or hosting something at my house.
I did my undergraduate work at Auburn University at Montgomery where I earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing. I worked in the inpatient and emergency department settings. I also worked as a flight nurse on a rotary team during the latter half of my time as a nurse, while I earned a degree as a nurse practitioner. I then began working my way toward medical school and attended the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine to pursue a career in emergency medicine. My wife and I have been married for 7 years and we are excited about being in Greenville. I am so thankful to have matched to such an incredible program and to be a part of this awesome intern class.
My name is Avery Bingham. I was born and raised in the great state of Louisiana (geaux tigers) where I attended medical school at LSU Health Shreveport. When not at work, I enjoy hanging with my husband, pickleball, game nights, and exploring the many breweries in and around Greenville.
Born and raised in Florida, I grew up in Satellite Beach on the east coast and then made my way to Orlando for undergrad at UCF! I was familiar with the Greenville area after visiting family, and after I finished my AI here, I knew this would be the program for me. My wife and I are extremely excited to make the move out to Greenville and are looking forward to exploring all that the beautiful city has to offer!
I went to Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA and med school at Medical College of Georgia - UGA Medical Partnership campus in Athens, GA. I married my high school sweetheart, Morgan, during our senior year of college. We have a son, Luke, who is almost 2 years old, and a daughter, Sophie, coming to a hospital near you in September. We also have two fur babies, Belle our golden retriever and Lexi our cat.
I was born in North Carolina but grew up in and call Tallahassee, FL home. I attended Florida State University for both undergrad and medical school. I met my now wife, Caylin, in middle school and we have been together ever since. We have a golden retriever named Crouton. I fell in love with emergency medicine working as an ER tech during college and knew it was what I wanted to pursue. We fell in love with the Greenville area and the program here at Prisma on our second look and are so happy we made it here!
I was raised in Colorado and am an avid traveler and global health advocate with a passion for serving underserved communities and increasing access to health care for everyone. I chose Greenville because I wanted to continue fostering my passions in a supportive family environment. During the interview, it was obvious to me that this was the perfect place to obtain those goals. The people were wonderful and we fell in love with the idea of a new adventure in a new region of the country. I also loved the opportunity for advanced training in intensive care and pediatrics that Greenville offered. In my free time, I love to explore the outdoors, food, and beer. My husband and I enjoy taking our lifted Jeep Wrangler off-roading and camping/hiking in random places along trails that we find.
I love the community atmosphere this EM program has created and how invested everyone in the program is with helping me achieve my personal and professional goals. I knew this program would help me become the EM physician I want to be, and I’m excited for the next three years!
I enjoy pickleball, spending time with my dogs, the gym, Amazon shopping, beer brewing, and college football (War Eagle).
I am from Liberty, SC, just down the road. I pursued my undergraduate studies at Presbyterian College, majoring in Biochemistry & Chemistry, where I not only focused on academics but also found my wonderful wife, Amber. During college, I actually worked as a patient transporter at Greenville Memorial Hospital, which is what started my love for medicine. I also had a great internship in Greenville, and I always admired the hospital staff and patient community. Despite brief stints away, Greenville has always been home! Greenville consistently exceeds expectations, particularly in its Emergency Medicine program. I am drawn to its diverse Emergency Department sites and the exceptional learning opportunities they provide.
In my downtime, I love exploring new subjects through online courses. My wife and I have two wild golden retrievers, we love spending time with. When I have the time, I also love to go to the gym.
I was raised in Northeast Georgia and attended undergrad at Emmanuel College (now Emmanuel University). After living in Africa for a couple years, I attended the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, VA where I met my wife. After graduation my wife and I both completed Family Medicine residency in Greenwood, SC. Following a deployment with the Army National Guard, I worked as a hospitalist for several years before coming to Greenville to complete Emergency Medicine Residency. We love Upstate South Carolina and Emergency Medicine Residency at Prisma Health Upstate has been a great experience. We get excellent training, but the best part is the people. Wouldn’t choose anywhere else.
Born and raised up and down the East coast until finally settling down in Charleston, SC before high school. Attended Furman University for undergrad then moved to Austin, TX with no plan whatsoever after graduating, making his parents proud. Worked for a few months as a valet until ultimately returning home to Charleston to work as a patient care tech and focus on attending medical school. Came back to the Upstate two years later for medical school (USCSOMG) and very excited to be staying for residency.
Hey there! I was born and raised in the great state of Florida and attended the University of Florida for undergraduate (go gators!). I then went to Nova Southeastern for medical school. When I’m not at work I enjoy walking with my rescue pup Gracie on the Swamp Rabbit Trail, discovering new coffee shops, hiking in the blue ridge mountains, hanging with my fiancé, having get togethers with friends and family and exploring all that Greenville has to offer.
I went to college at Clemson University where I received a BS in Biology in 2017. I attended medical school at USCSOMG. In my 6 months off between college and medical school I traveled with my older sister backpacking through Europe. I met my husband, Leif, at Clemson University where he studied material science engineering and currently works in New Product Development as an engineer. Recently got married in the Greenville area! We have two dogs named Crash and Lucy and a cat named Jax.
I am from London, KY. I went to undergrad at Georgetown College, where I was fortunate enough to play baseball. I also worked as an ED Tech during that time and then attended the University of Kentucky's College of Medicine for medical school. I ultimately chose Greenville because of my experience on an away rotation. Ironically, a family friend trained in Greenville and said the culture there was unmatched. During my away rotation, I quickly realized he was right. In my free time, I enjoy anything outdoors.
I was born and raised in Dalton, Ga (fun fact: it's the carpet capital of the world!), went to the University of Georgia for undergrad, and then attended Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine at their Suwanee, GA campus for medical school.
I chose Greenville because I felt like I belonged here after my interview day. It was my first time in the area, and I was warmly welcomed by the program. I could tell how supported the residents were and that they were very happy here. I also fell in love with the area and knew I had to train here!
In my free time, I love going on walks with my dog and enjoying the scenery. On rainy days, I love to stay in and watch reality TV shows, learn to crochet, or play Stardew Valley!
I went to Wofford College and decided I wanted to stay in the upstate for medical school to be close to my family, who all live in Spartanburg, SC. I attended UofSC SOM Greenville. I can’t imagine living anywhere other than the Upstate of South Carolina and am thrilled to have the opportunity to stay here in Greenville while I continue my training.
Hi everyone! I grew up in Nebraska (GBR!) with my 4 brothers and sisters, and spent time doing anything and everything from sports to camping to music and beyond. I went on to play soccer at a D2 in northeast Nebraska and attended UNMC for medical school. After spending my life in the lovely corn state, I decided it was time to venture out. The southeast caught my interest, and the program here checked off many of my boxes: a hybrid academic/community program, high volume ED, exposure to different niches within EM, and am emphasis on resident well-being. I came to Greenville for their second look weekend and instantly felt like I clicked with the people. In my free time, I love to bake and cook, go on hikes, spend time with my dog, hit up the many breweries with my friends, and attend the various running clubs around town (ask me about our resident run club too!). I’m so lucky to have matched at Greenville and love being able to call SC my new home.
I was born and raised in Virginia with two older siblings. I played soccer and basketball growing up and enjoyed anything outside when not playing sports! I went to Lehigh university to play soccer my freshman year before transferring to UVA. Following in my sister's footsteps, I went to VCOM in Blacksburg, Virginia for medical school. When I wasn't studying, I was playing intramural soccer, hiking, and attending Virginia Tech football tailgates! I did an away rotation in Greenville during my fourth year of medical school and absolutely loved it! I enjoy spending time with my parents at their mountain house, running on the swamp rabbit trail, hanging with my co-residents at baseball games, and exploring all the restaurants Greenville has to offer!
My family and I fell in love with Greenville during med school. I did my rotations at St. Francis, a smaller hospital in Greenville. We have a lot of friends in the area, and it's close to home. My free time is mostly spent with my wife Grace, our son Fitz, and our pup Walt. When I get the chance, I like to strum the guitar and play tennis.
I was born and raised in Augusta GA, moved to Macon GA to play college soccer at Mercer University, then stayed at Mercer for Medical School. Go Bears! I am an active outdoors enthusiast. In my free time you can find me with my amazing fiancé on the water ski course, mountain biking, wake surfing, wakeboarding, road cycling, backpacking, or rock climbing. These hobbies are one of the many reasons I am interested in pursuing a wilderness medicine fellowship. I chose to come to Prisma Upstate for abundant inspirational energy I felt during my month as an acting intern.
Emily grew up in Springville, Alabama. She stayed in sweet home Alabama for undergrad and medical school at Troy University and UAB Heersink School of Medicine. She enjoys mountain biking with her fiance, writing poetry, and reading. She chose Greenville because of the people, the beautiful city, and the outdoor activities nearby.
I went to Merrimack College in North Andover, MA for undergrad. For medical school, I went to Rocky Vista University COM in Parker, CO. During medical school, I was part of the US Army’s “Health Professions Scholarship Program” (HPSP). Upon completion of medical school, I completed an intern year at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, GA. After intern year, I spent the next five years as a General Medical Officer for the Army, specifically in the role of flight surgeon. My final station location for the Army was at Redstone Arsenal where I was lucky enough to meet my amazing wife, Meagan.
I'm from Decatur, Illinois. I attended college at Saint Louis University and medical School at Southern Illinois University. There are so many reasons I chose GVL EM: the enthusiasm for learning and serving patients, the camaraderie among the EM Residents and faculty, and the world-class education in the best specialty of all are just some of those! In my free time I train powerlifting, hike, get absolutely destroyed on Smash Bros Online, and hang out with my wife Kayleigh and our dog Hugo.
My name is Fahad Uddin, and I was born and raised in Winter Springs, Florida, a suburb within Orlando! I went to the University of Central Florida (UCF) for undergrad, who were obviously the national champs of the 2017 college football season! I took about two years off before starting medical school at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Auburn, Alabama (War Eagle!). From a young age, I knew I wanted to have a career in helping others and I loved learning about the human body. Medicine combined both of these passions of mine and I am grateful to have the opportunity of becoming a physician. I am so lucky to be pursuing my residency here at Prisma Health-Upstate. Between the amazing facility and top-notch physicians we learn from, I have no doubt I will become a competent physician who will be able to provide excellent care to my future patients. Living in Greenville is an added bonus of training here and I can't wait to explore this city even more. On my off days, you can catch me hosting game nights with friends/family, spending the weekend watching college football, or playing a mean game of Pickleball!
I grew up in Chapel Hill, went to UNC for college, and am a lifelong UNC basketball fan (Go Heels!). In the five years between finishing my undergraduate degree and starting medical school at UNC, I worked in neurobiology labs in NYC and NC, bicycled across the United States, went to graduate school in VA where I researched neurogenesis after traumatic brain injury, and worked in a homeless youth clinic in Seattle
I grew up in Los Angeles and then moved to the Midwest for my undergraduate studies. I spent some time working as an EMT after college before going to medical school. I completed my acting internship at Prisma Upstate and instantly clicked with the program. In my free time, you'll find me grilling, watching movies or getting outdoors with my wife and daughter.
