Family Medicine Residency Columbia - How to Apply
Application information
Acceptance requires graduation from a medical school approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education of the Association of American Medical Colleges, the AOA Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation, or be certified by ECFMG.
First-year appointments are made through the National Resident Matching Program beginning July 1. All applicants are considered for interview after receipt of:
- An application and personal statement.
- Transcripts and USMLE or COMLEX board scores.
- Two letters of personal recommendation.
- A letter from the medical school dean.
The Department's Resident Selection Committee screens applicants according to the following criteria:
- Passing scores on USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 or COMLEX Level 1 and Level 2
- Graduating from an accredited US medical school within the last two years (exception for U.S. military personnel serving as general medical officers).
- Select IMG applicants may be considered if there is a specific connection to our program or area, provided there is US Citizenship with valid ECFMG license and two years U.S. clinical experience.
- All applications through ERAS.
The deadline for applications is December 15. All application materials are received through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). We also strongly encourage all applicants to complete Step 2 of the USMLE or COMLEX before January 1 of their fourth year.
