Family Medicine Residency Greenville - Director's Welcome
Greetings from the Prisma Health/University of South Carolina School of Medicine-Greenville Family Medicine Residency Program in Greenville, SC! On behalf of the Department of Family Medicine, our faculty, and residents, I would like to extend our appreciation for your interest in our program.
Founded in 1971, our residency training program has graduated hundreds of residents since our program’s inception who have excelled in many different capacities around the country. Upon graduating, our residents have sought private and academic practice opportunities or matched into a variety of specialty fellowships, including sports medicine, global health, and hospice and palliative care.
As a program, our mission is to “heal the community by inspiring learners and partnering with patients”. Our program aims to train family physicians who are competent to practice a broad scope of family medicine with advanced training in areas of interest and within a variety of settings across the continuum of care. We also emphasize compassionate, empathic, and focused care of the entire patient and their family or social unit - with awareness of the social determinants that influence health and the unique needs of a diverse patient population.
As a collaborative training program, we work closely with our colleagues in other medical specialties across various medical settings. These close relationships provide an enriching learning environment and empower our team to gain the broadest knowledge and skills possible. We have a strong academic affiliation within the University of South Carolina School of Medicine – Greenville, as well as other academic partners in the Upstate, and our faculty are passionate about their roles in teaching and mentoring a diverse range of learners.
We could not be prouder of the community we serve - Greenville is an amazing place to live, work and play in! In the Upstate of South Carolina, there is ample opportunity to explore. This is a vibrant, active community with an emerging culinary presence and often recognized as a top place to live and visit. As Greenville continues to evolve and grow, our program will remain a pillar for primary care, serving as a medical home for those in our community.
I am amazed by the passion for Family Medicine our residents and faculty display and their unparalleled commitment to high quality patient care. As we grow, we evolve our mission with the needs of our patients, their families, and the Upstate of South Carolina.
