Family Medicine Residency Greer - Director's Welcome
From all of our team, I would like to personally thank you for visiting the Prisma Health Greer Family Medicine Residency Program website. We are a new Family Medicine Residency program located on the Prisma Health Greer Medical Campus. We received our ACGME accreditation in 2018 and our first class of residents started in July 2020. Our program’s mission is to “train competent, caring, community-oriented Family Medicine Physicians.”
In 2016, Prisma Health established the vision for a new program on the Greer campus that would train Family Medicine Physicians using a unique, future-oriented curriculum while also helping meet the primary care needs of our community. Since then, our team has developed a curriculum that places equal importance on outpatient and inpatient training. All of our rotations are designed to equip you with the skills you need to be a successful clinician and healthcare leader.
The majority of your outpatient training occurs at the Center for Family Medicine-Greer (CFM-Greer), the continuity clinic for the residency program. CFM-Greer was started by the faculty in the fall of 2018 and has been intentionally designed to train residents for the future of medicine. You will have two dedicated months of FM clinic each year in addition to your regular continuity clinics. Additional outpatient training will occur as you rotate through pediatrics, sports medicine, and other specialties.
Inpatient training occurs mainly at the Prisma Health Greer Memorial Hospital. Our hospital was built in 2008 and was specifically designed to provide comprehensive quality care in a community setting. As you work with the Attending Physicians and the various multidisciplinary teams within the hospital, you will train in a unique setting that models the future of hospital medicine. Hospital rotations include Wards (which combines adult, pediatric, and newborn medicine experiences), ER, Surgery, and OB. Additional pediatric hospital training occurs at the Prisma Health Children’s Hospital on the Greenville Memorial Campus.
Additional longitudinal training opportunities include sports medicine, business health, practice management, and community outreaches. We also offer a robust didactic curriculum and simulation center sessions which occur on protected academic afternoons.
Greer, South Carolina started as a small textile town almost one hundred and fifty years ago. Over the past thirty years, Greer has transformed from a textile hub into a suburban manufacturing center yet maintains its small town charm. Not only is Greer home of BMW North America, it is also home to an International Airport, an Inland Port, and twelve city parks. Greer is located half-way between Greenville and Spartanburg, SC. The Blue Ridge Mountains, area lakes, multiple colleges, and several semi-professional sports teams are within thirty minutes of our hospital campus.
Again, I’m thrilled that you are interested in our program. We know that our new program will offer you many unique opportunities and help you become a “competent, caring, community oriented Family Medicine Physician.” I hope that you will consider joining our team as we help transform the health of our community.
Sincerely,
Seth Patterson, MD
