Program leadership
Mary Beth Poston, MD, is a clinical professor of internal medicine at Prisma Health. She received her medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and completed her residency at Palmetto Health Richland, both in Columbia. She then completed an academic general internal medicine fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and is board certified in internal medicine.
Academically, Dr. Poston is interested in graduate medical education and is the Internal Medicine Residency Program Director. Her additional interests include ultrasound in medical education and increasing physical activity in primary care.
David Giovannini, MD, is a board-certified internal medicine doctor at Prisma Health in Columbia, South Carolina. He received his medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia and completed his residency in internal medicine at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, where he served as chief resident. Dr. Giovannini also serves as a clinical assistant professor in the USC Department of Internal Medicine, where he works closely with medical students and residents and is involved with the Ultrasound Institute. Prior to medical school, he received his undergraduate degree in textile engineering from North Carolina State University in Raleigh and worked as a process improvement engineer in the Upstate region of South Carolina.
Suchita Pancholi, MD, is a board certified physician who received her medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia. Dr. Pancholi then completed her internship and residency at Vidant Medical Center/Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. She went on to serve as chief resident before joining as a faculty member in the general internal medicine division at VMC/BSOM at ECU and as an associate program director for the internal medicine residency program there. Dr. Pancholi transitioned to Prisma Health-USC Medical Group in 2018 and is currently a Clinical Associate Professor with Internal Medicine at Prisma Health. She is the Primary Care Track Director within the Internal Medicine Residency program and remains heavily involved in ambulatory medicine training for resident physicians.
Gregg Talente, MD, is a board certified physician who completed his undergraduate and medical education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and completed his residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. After completing residency training he completed a primary care fellowship and obtained a master's degree in education at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Talente joined the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 2010. He previously worked at East Carolina University School of Medicine in Greenville, where he served as the program director for the combined internal medicine and pediatrics residency and as the interim chief of general internal medicine. He is currently the director of the Internal Medicine Resident Clinic and has an adjunct appointment in the Department of Pediatrics and Division of General Pediatrics. His interests include resident and student education, educational evaluation and issues related to transitioning emerging adults with chronic disease from pediatric to adult health care environments.
Sharon Beth Weissman, MD, is a board certified physician who is the division chief of infectious diseases at Prisma Health in Columbia, South Carolina, where she also serves as a clinical professor of internal medicine at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. She previously served as program director for the Prisma Health–Midlands Infectious Disease Fellowship Program. Dr. Weissman received her medical degree from Columbia University in New York City and completed her residency at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. After her residency, she completed a fellowship in infectious diseases at Beth Israel Hospital-Brigham and Women's Hospital, also in Boston. She previously held positions at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, where she was director of the HIV/Infectious Disease Clinic at the Louis Stoke Cleveland VAMC, and Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut, where she also served as director of HIV services at the Hospital of Saint Raphael.
