About our program
The Prisma Health/University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia Internal Medicine Residency Program offers an academic-based learning experience in a large Level I Trauma Center that acts as the main referral center in the region.

We offer multiple avenues to help you achieve your career goals, including a primary care track for those seeking a strong foundation in outpatient care, and multiple in-house fellowship programs including cardiology, endocrinology, infectious disease, pulmonary-critical care, rheumatology, geriatrics, palliative care, and primary care ultrasound.
Prisma Health continues to expand opportunities for the program, and there is a level of collegiality, approachability and support balanced with an emphasis on education and autonomy.
Our program's culture has allowed our graduates to become excellent providers, whether it be as hospitalists, primary care physicians, or as subspecialists.
If you are considering applying to our residency program, please know that we utilize a holistic review of applications that takes a couple of weeks to accomplish. For the 2023-24 recruitment season, we will release interview invitations on the afternoon of Oct 11, 2023. In fairness to waitlisted candidates, please plan to accept or decline as soon as is reasonably possible. If no response is received within 10 days (by 5pm October 20, 2023 for the first set of interviews released), we will consider you to have declined and open your interview spot to another candidate.
