Internal Medicine Residency Greenville - Director's Welcome

Welcome!

There is no greater privilege than serving as the Internal Medicine Program Director and playing a pivotal role in the training of our residents. I have been at Prisma Health since 2017, and can attest to the phenomenal, hands-on training our residents receive. It is my honor to share with you the many features that make the Prisma Health/University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville Internal Medicine Residency Program so special.

Our residency program is well established, training physicians since 1976. Prisma Health is the leading health care system in our region, and our teaching physicians are highly skilled, efficient and supportive teachers and mentors.

Our trainees graduate well-prepared to pursue careers in primary care, hospital medicine and subspecialty fellowships, making them highly sought after. When you look at the opportunities, boards passage rate and accomplishments on paper, it’s clear how exceptional our trainees truly are.

However, simple numbers can’t convey what is at the heart of our program – the character and culture of our team.

Here at Prisma Health, you’ll find staff whose enthusiasm for learning, quality patient care, hard work and teaching is matched only by their collegiality. We are committed to patients and to the practice of medicine, as well as to supporting one another both in and out of the hospital. It’s what sets our residency program apart from the rest.

You’ll receive excellent training here at Prisma Health. As the largest nonprofit health care system in South Carolina, we function as both a safety net hospital and tertiary referral center, providing residents with broad training opportunities and a diverse patient population. Our research focus is also unique, as we collaborate with three major nearby universities (The University of South Carolina, Clemson University, and Furman University) to form the Health Sciences Center. Through this collaboration, we work together to pave the way for breakthroughs in health care delivery, access and affordability, keeping the best interests of our patients front and center.

Additionally, our hospital system opened the doors in 2012 to one of the newest medical schools in the United States. The University of South Carolina School of Medicine–Greenville is an innovative allopathic medical schools which provides ample opportunities for our residents to be immersed in a strong, supportive academic and clinical teaching environment. We offer fellowships in Infectious Disease, Gastroenterology and Pulmonology/Critical Care.

Greenville is a wonderful place to both live and work. Whether you’re interested in accessible outdoor recreation, the arts, excellent restaurants, community engagement, comedy or you’re really just looking for a walkable downtown, a friendly feel and great local food, you will not be disappointed. There’s a reason so many people want to move here!

I am proud of our compassionate, hardworking resident physicians who are developing the critical appraisal abilities, leadership skills and curiosity needed to provide excellent patient care and drive improvement within their own practices and communities at both a local and national level.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about our program on our website. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any additional questions you may have.
