Highlights of our program
As a resident in Internal Medicine at Prisma Health, your advanced training will offer an excellent balance of learning in both inpatient and outpatient settings. You will be given opportunities to manage patients with graduated autonomy, learn and practice new procedures and develop existing skills necessary for exemplary patient-physician relationships. In addition to your clinical training, we have a robust didactic series including morning reports, noon conferences, a longitudinal board preparation series, journal clubs, patient safety and quality improvement conferences, wellness time and check-in meetings with the Chief Residents and Program Leadership. Grand Rounds are held weekly on Friday mornings and showcase local and national experts. Additionally, we have an Academic Half Day on Friday afternoon where residents come together for have interactive educational sessions including flipped classroom, small group case discussions, POCUS training led by a national leader and simulation in our state of the art simulation lab. Led by both general and subspecialty faculty, the content follows a specialty specific topic for the block.
As an intern, your rotations will focus on establishing an excellent foundation in general internal medicine and essentials of patient care. PGY-2 year focuses on care in higher acuity areas, as well as developing as a team leader and manager. The PGY-3 has substantial flexibility for elective choice, allowing senior residents to refine their skills and broaden their knowledge and skills in areas pertinent to their future career goals.
Our program aims to:
- Prepare residents to be competent, well-rounded, compassionate internists who are equipped to provide excellent patient care or to enter fellowship training
- Provide residents with the resources and training to sit for and pass the ABIM certification board exam
- Provide residents with career and professional mentorship necessary to succeed in creating a career in line with their professional talents and goals.
- Stimulate lifelong learning and to provide training in performance and application of sophisticated procedures and advanced technologies.
- Provide residents with the background skills necessary for successful practice in today’s rapidly changing healthcare environment with training in quality improvement, population health, and team-based care.
