Orthopedic Surgery Residency Columbia - Director's Welcome

Thank you for taking the time to explore our program.

We strive to provide a well-rounded learning environment for residents to graduate competent and confident surgeons and leaders. Our residents gain access to a wide variety of clinical settings while obtaining early and plentiful surgical exposure. This includes a Level I Trauma Center/tertiary referral center, outpatient surgery centers, SEC athletic facilities and a community-based hospital and practice. The combination of these opportunities coupled with a vibrant and growing research enterprise provide our residents with the ability to grow and experience the full spectrum of orthopedic practice opportunities that will be open to them upon graduation.

Further, our program fosters a close-knit, family environment that is evident in the interactions of our residents and graduates. By ensuring such support of our residents, we allow them the opportunity to focus on the task at hand – learning orthopedic surgery.

Lastly, and uniquely, all of our residents are afforded the opportunity to participate in the SCOA Foundation Global Orthopedic Residency Initiative. This global health initiative involves an exchange program with a Haitian residency program that not only allows for residents to travel and practice in a third-world setting, but also to educate providers from Haiti to create a sustainable health model into the future in that country. In this way, we look to graduate socially-conscious physicians who look to affect change inside and outside of their local communities.

For these and many other reasons, we look forward to having you learn more about what Prisma Health has to offer.

Sincerely,
Gregory Grabowski, MD
