00:15
the prisma health
00:16
preventive medicine residency program is
00:20
the only preventive medicine program in
00:22
the state of south carolina
00:24
our specialty is training
00:28
that involves not only a clinical
00:30
component to the training
00:32
but a portion of the training is
00:35
significantly involved with the masters
00:38
of public health in the university of
00:40
south carolina
00:41
arnold school of public health which has
00:43
a very strong
00:45
public health program and
00:48
our presidents spend time not only with
00:51
the school of
00:52
public health and in different clinical
00:54
settings
00:55
but they also spend time in different
00:58
practicum or non-clinical settings
01:00
in areas such as
01:04
health care management with blue cross
01:06
blue shield in public health practice
01:08
with
01:09
the state health department as we call
01:11
it here in south carolina
01:12
dhec and also other various partners
01:16
that we have
01:18
relationships with what i'm most proud
01:20
of in our specialty program
01:23
is number one our board pass rates our
01:26
residents are very successful in sitting
01:28
and taking the boards and passing the
01:29
boards
01:30
and also the diversity of preventive
01:33
medicine
01:33
specialists that our program produces
01:36
through
01:36
training and the various jobs that our
01:40
residents
01:40
undertake after they've completed our
01:43
program
01:44
what our residents can expect as key
01:45
experiences in this program
01:47
is the diversity of their of their
01:49
training
01:50
really in the different rotations that
01:53
they undertake
01:54
and also their mph curriculum
01:57
so i think they will be very
01:59
well-rounded
02:00
when they finish their training and they
02:02
will be ready to
02:04
undertake their jobs in the workforce as
02:07
preventive medicine residents
02:09
they also will be very prepared to take
02:12
the board exam
02:13
and so i think those are very big
02:16
takeaways from the program
02:18
our program supports work-life balance
02:20
and wellness
02:21
because we have actually incorporated
02:24
wellness and work-life balance
02:27
opportunities and
02:28
and stressing those aspects of
02:31
training within our program and also
02:35
at the department level so we have a
02:38
resident wellness curriculum
02:40
built into our regular didactic
02:42
curriculum we spend a lot of time to
02:44
make sure that that's incorporated in
02:46
our resident training time
02:48
and also we formalize our residents
02:50
contact
02:51
with the institutions
02:54
employee assistance program so our
02:56
residents are very aware that that
02:57
resource is there
02:58
and we highly encourage residents to
03:00
utilize that resource
03:02
colombia reminds me of my hometown nine
03:04
to five
03:05
life the people are really nice have
03:07
good public schools where i want my kids
03:09
to attend
03:10
um you know the food is great what makes
03:12
life interesting is
03:13
there's no crowd you know this place is
03:16
very very um
03:17
you know homely where you can raise kids
03:19
um
03:20
the environment is very nice the um
03:23
faculty is very
03:24
friendly my colleagues are nice so
03:27
everything fits in
03:28
they have also wide arrays of food that
03:30
are very interesting when you're coming
03:32
to colombia so if it's my life night you
03:34
know
03:34
so i appreciate coming to colombia so
03:36
when i was going through
03:38
my options in the various programs that
03:40
offer preventive medicines
03:42
we came to find out that the prisma
03:44
health preventive medicine residency
03:47
had a wide range of programs that i
03:50
integrated in preventive medicine such
03:52
as the occupational health
03:54
the general preventive medicine and
03:56
public health
03:57
and the preventive medicine here also
04:00
works in conjunction with the family
04:02
medicine
04:03
residency so we also have clinicals
04:05
where we get our clinical training
04:08
and we also have um the department of
04:10
health that we call the heck here we
04:12
also have our rotations here
04:14
and the mph program why i came also here
04:16
is because the classes
04:18
are well integrated into preventive
04:20
medicines
04:21
that are you know immediately as you
04:23
graduate you are ready for the next
04:25
stage of your career
04:26
whether in public health or whatever
04:28
situation you find yourself or you want
04:30
to go to cdc or you want to join global
04:32
health
04:32
the folks that teach the program are
04:34
world-renowned in what they do
04:36
and you know it's very appealing the
04:38
most important thing about the program
04:39
is that
04:40
it covers all the aspects of general
04:42
preventive medicine
04:43
talk about occupational medicine talking
04:46
about public health
04:47
and you know if you want to go in global
04:50
health
04:50
you have all the opportunities laid out
04:52
in this program so it's a wonderful
04:53
program to be
04:57
i chose brismet health for preventive
04:59
medicine residency
05:01
because it has the diversity of these
05:03
specialties it has a very well
05:06
oriented attendings a very well as
05:09
special
05:10
very well experienced personnel in the
05:12
program
05:13
i feel this program is going to prepare
05:15
me well
05:17
since since the first day we have
05:18
started the didactics have been very
05:21
well cleared very well stated
05:23
and our our schedule and rotations are
05:26
very well organized
05:27
and it's it's right there i never had a
05:29
problem finding out what i'm going to do
05:31
next i never had
05:32
like a direct question about scheduling
05:34
or other issues this program
05:36
has a very well-oriented message of
05:38
public health the professors have been
05:40
amazing professors they're very well
05:42
supportive
05:43
to us and to our situation from the
05:46
first day that i've started in the
05:48
program i noticed that i have
05:50
a great support of my faculty
05:54
everybody is trying to reach out to us
05:57
trying to see if we need anything if
05:59
there is anything else is missing
06:01
i don't believe that we had an issue
06:03
that wasn't resolved in a timely manner
06:05
or at least
06:06
everybody's doing the best thing they
06:18
can
06:20
you
