1st Year Residents

Griffin Gillespie, DO

Griffin Gillespie, DO

Medical School: VCOM-Auburn
Hometown: Green Bay Wisconsin
Medical Areas of Interest:  Sports Psychiatry, Interventional Psychiatry, Emergency Psychiatry

Hey, my name is Griffin Gillespie. I spent part of my childhood in Charlotte, North Carolina before moving to Green Bay, Wisconsin. To get away from the cold, I attended the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where I studied Biology and Chemistry and competed on the men’s Division 2 lacrosse team (Go Chargers). I stayed in Alabama for medical school and attended VCOM in Auburn. During my 3rd year rotations, I quickly discovered my interest in psychiatry and how it impacts all aspects of medicine.

During the interview process I heard many residents say they chose their program because of the people. It was not until I came to Greenville for the second look event that I really understood what that meant. It is evident the program faculty here at Greenville truly care about the well being of the residents. In addition to the supportive and friendly culture, this program offers a wide variety of electives to experience many of the sub-specialties within psychiatry. Plus, how many hospital cafeterias have a Chick-fil-a and a Starbucks?

Stephanie Hsiang, MD

Medical School: Florida State University College of Medicine, Tallahassee Campus
Hometown: Niceville, FL
Medical Areas of Interest: Reproductive Psychiatry, Perinatal/Woman’s Health

I was born and raised in Niceville, FL, a tiny town in the Florida Panhandle. I lived in California for eight years, where I did my undergrad at Stanford, got my master’s in psychology at Pepperdine, and worked in urologic oncology at Saint John’s Cancer Institute. I was excited to return to Florida near family to attend Florida State University College of Medicine. During med school, I got married, adopted a doggo (named Finnigan after Harry Potter), and taught myself how to crochet my own clothes! I’m so excited to eat my way through Greenville and learn how to do handy household things as a first-time homeowner.

Urja Shah, DO

Urja Shah, DO

Medical School: Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine
Hometown: Parlin, NJ
Medical area of interest: Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (specifically transitional age youth), Trauma & Resilience, Integrative Medicine & Lifestyle Psychiatry, Cultural Psychiatry

I was born in India and immigrated to the United States when I was 7. Because of this, I feel deeply connected to my cultural roots and have always loved celebrating the festivals and spiritual traditions of India with my family.  I also grew up training as a classical Indian dancer, where I fell in love with the performing arts and the art of storytelling. However, I always knew I wanted to become a doctor, so I attended a vocational high school for allied health sciences. Then, I completed my undergraduate training at Rutgers University – New Brunswick, a master’s program in Viriginia, and then medical school in North Carolina. As an osteopathic medical student, I became passionate about helping people holistically, considering the mind-body connection, their nutrition, and complementary & alternative modalities. This passion became infused into all the projects that I took on in medical school, from national leadership opportunities to diverse research projects, and even to my own start-up company called myPEAK. Being the overly eager and enthusiastic medical student, I genuinely loved all my rotations as an MS3. Although, when I got to my psychiatry rotation, I finally felt like I could be myself: connect with people by listening to their stories and help them within the full context of their life. I loved it. Now, I’m so grateful to be at such a welcome and nurturing program for psychiatry residency, especially one in a beautiful city filled with nature, unique restaurants, and wonderful people. Outside of medicine, you’ll find me curled up reading my favorite books over and over again, teaching myself a new dance routine, or catching up on the latest K-dramas.

Matthew Tueller, DO

Matthew Tueller, DO

Medical School: Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine
Hometown: Auburn, California
Medical Areas of Interest: interventional psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, and medical education

Hey everyone! My name is Matthew Tueller. I was born in Auburn, California but moved to Lookout Mountain, Georgia for undergrad. I completed my first two years of medical school in Virgnia, and then made the move to the small town of New Albany, Mississippi for my third year clinical rotations. During this year, I discovered my love for psychiatry, with special thanks to my mentor and attending for being such an incredible model of the type of physician I want to become.

During undergrad, I joined the cross country and track teams and fell in love with running! I still try to fit in some races each year, whether that be half marathons or 5ks. Luckily for me, Greenville has many beautiful places to run, most notably the Swamp Rabbit trail! When I’m not running, I am probably listening to Beyonce, eating at some local restaurant or trying a new coffee shop. Greenville has been a great city to live in and to explore the local food scene. There is a very vibrant sense of community in the city that you can see from the almost weekly events happening in downtown. There is almost always something going on and something exciting to do.

I have felt such an incredible amount of support from the faculty and other residents at this program. I feel very lucky to have matched at a program that is so dedicated to, and invested in, my education and training.

Medical school:  Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, Auburn Campus
Hometown:  Madison, AL
Medical area of interest:  Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Veteran population

Hi! My name is Alysa Bloodsworth. My husband, who is in Internal Medicine, and I couples matched here in Greenville after attending medical school at VCOM in Auburn, AL. We both love so much about Prisma Health and the Greenville area. With both of us planning to do fellowships, and with a 1-year-old daughter, we picked a program site that had the best benefits, breadth of career and learning opportunities, and the best view. I was fascinated by some of the discussions I had during my interview, including learning about NMT. After visiting the area and meeting faculty/residents in person, my husband and I were stoked with our choice to come here. A little on my background, I was an Arabic linguist in the Marine Corps for 5 years before studying Arabic studies and neuroscience in Chicago, IL. I decided to pursue becoming a psychiatrist after returning from a deployment overseas and having a desire to work with others on their mental health. I have lived all over the states (and in Sweden) and love to travel both in the states and internationally. It has been wonderful being here, and the support has been great! My family and I have enjoyed playdates and get-togethers with other residents and their families/pets at our favorite parks and restaurants in the area.

Sierra McClendon, MD

Medical school:  Medical College of Georgia
Hometown:  Macon, GA
Medical Areas of Interest:  Child and Adolescent Psychaitry, Forensic Psychiatry

Hi everyone! My name is Sierra McClendon, and I'm very blessed to be returning to Greenville as a part of the Psychiatry Residency Program. Greenville is a second home for me as I am an alumna and former cheerleader of Furman University. Go, Paladins! Before starting medical school, I worked in retail, a free healthcare clinic, and completed a master's degree at Mercer University School of Medicine. In my spare time, you can find me reading a good book, binging shows on Netflix or Disney+, going on the occasional nature walk, or catching up with my family and friends. I'm also a self-proclaimed Starbucks and Chick-fil-A enthusiast.

I chose Prisma Health Greenville Psychiatry Program because everyone was so welcoming on interview day and during the Second Look. I had the best time speaking with residents and faculty. I genuinely felt cared for as a person, and I could be myself. Also, because of the program's size, you receive more one-on-one attention, which helps foster close-knit relationships and individualized learning. Next, I wanted to stay in the southeast to remain close to my family, and I loved Greenville during my undergraduate years. It is a great city with beautiful weather, plenty to do, and one of the most beautiful downtowns. You're also close to major cities such as Atlanta, GA, or Charlotte, NC. Finally, residency is challenging enough. I've been pleasantly surprised with the benefits Prisma Health provides to its residents to help them work, maintain overall health, and promote wellness.

Hometown:  Fort Motte, SC
Medical area of interest:  Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Interventional Psychiatry

My name is Josiah McDonald, and I could not be happier to be a part of the Greenville Psychiatry Residency program family.  I was born and raised overseas in Japan but soon found my way to the heartland of South Carolina in a little town called Fort Motte.  I completed my undergraduate degree in Columbia, South Carolina. I was fortunate enough to be accepted into University of South Carolina medical school Greenville.  My wife and I instantly fell in love with the upstate and all that it had to offer.  It was not long after that the during my third year of medical school, that I found my interest in the fantastic field of psychiatry. The Greenville psychiatry residency program was a great first exposure to the field of psychiatry.  Both the faculty and the residents were incredibly helpful and made learning all the more enjoyable.  I knew very early on that Greenville would be my top pick for the match.  My wife, my son, and I were all through the moon when we got the good news that I matched here. My family and I now enjoy all the activities that Greenville has to offer including the beautiful downtown, restaurants, and multiple state parks.

Rachel Raimondo, DO

Rachel Raimondo, DO

Medical school:  Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Erie
Hometown:  Cleveland, Ohio
Medical area of interest:  Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Sports Psychiatry, Forensics. Otherwise, really keeping my options open!

Hey guys! My name is Rachel Raimondo, and I am thrilled to be a part of this residency program. I grew up just outside of Cleveland, Ohio where I also did my clinical rotations during my last 2 years of medical school. I attended Heidelberg University where I played collegiate volleyball and ended up at LECOM-Erie for medical school. I was lucky enough to do an audition rotation here and immediately felt at home. All of the residents and faculty were so welcoming, and I knew this would be a good fit for me. I spent my entire life in the north and was really looking to move south for residency. I really enjoyed how small this program is and was drawn to various fields of psychiatry this program has to offer (especially sports psych and having a child and adolescent fellowship). This program really values learning and every single faculty member is so passionate about teaching. Finding out I matched at my #1 choice was one of the best moments of my life and I feel so supported here already. Greenville itself is always growing and I was really looking for a place that gave a good mix of hometown and city life. I’m a huge sports fan and one thing that drew me here was how many sports teams surrounded the city of Greenville.

Hello, my name is David! I went to the University of Houston for my undergraduate degree and ACOM for medical school. I am a huge foodie, enjoy cooking, the outdoors, and love to golf! My wife and I are thrilled to be a part of this wonderful community. There are endless amounts of hiking trails nearby as well as great restaurants! What initially drew my attention to the Greenville psychiatry residency was the people. It was evident that the residents were happy at the program and felt well supported. My experience as a resident has not been any different. I am looking forward to continuing to grow alongside my wonderful co-residents under the guidance and leadership of our fantastic attendings!

Medical area of interest: Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Emergency Psychiatry

Hey y’all! My name is Madison Hall, and I am so happy to be a part of the Greenville Psychiatry Residency program. Growing up only 15 minutes from Greenville, this place has always felt like an extension of my hometown. I had the pleasure of staying in South Carolina for both college and medical school, and after I rotated at Marshall Pickens as a 3rd and 4th year med student, I knew I wanted to stay in Greenville for residency. Not only does this program offer a broad variety of exposure to different fields of psychiatry, but it also allows the opportunity to work with some of the coolest residents and most fantastic attendings that Prisma has to offer! My husband and I were so excited to find out I had matched at my top choice on Match Day! We have loved living in Greenville for the last 4 years and can always find something new to keep us entertained. On the weekends, you can usually find us in or near a body of water, at a football game, on our couch watching Netflix, or spending time with our families.

Mayanka Kumar, DO

Mayanka Kumar, DO

Hometown: Denver, Colorado
Medical school: Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine
Medical area of interest: Child and adolescent psychiatry, psychodynamic Psychotherapy

Hi, I’m Mayanka! I am originally from Memphis but moved to Denver when I was 4 years old. I attended Wellesley College where I majored in both Psychology and Spanish. After graduating, I worked at Kaiser Permanente’s Institute for Health Research where I helped conduct clinical trials in suicide prevention using DBT.  While the humidity is definitely an adjustment, I am excited to have a chance to step outside my comfort zone and live in a completely new city for the next few years. I am most excited to explore new avenues of psychiatry and in particular, child and adolescent psychiatry.  During my acting internship here, I was fortunate to rotate with the CAP team. I immediately felt at home and at ease working on the unit. Dr. Zappitelli's impressively consistent display of both compassion and knowledge in pediatric medicine not only inspired me, but reinforced my enthusiasm for the field. I would truly love the opportunity to care for kids and play a role in reducing their pain and suffering.  Outside of medicine, you’ll find me belting out pop 2k tunes, stopping to pet every dog, and convincing my co-interns that Zumba classes are the best workout.

Connor Oslin, MD

Medical school: Nova Southeastern University - College of Allopathic Medicine
Hometown: Kennesaw, GA
Medical area of interest: Sports Psychiatry, Adult Inpatient Psychiatry

Hi all! My name is Connor Oslin and I’m from Kennesaw, GA.  I went to undergrad at the University of Alabama, where I studied biology and was a member of the University’s swim team, specializing in the backstroke events.  After a fun four years full of success in the pool and classroom, I took a gap year to enjoy Tuscaloosa without the demands of being a college athlete and to enhance my medical knowledge as a scribe.  Afterwards, I moved to Fort Lauderdale, FL to join the inaugural class of Nova Southeastern University’s MD program.  I went into medical school with an open mind in terms of what I wanted to pursue, but knew psychiatry was for me after my 3rd year rotation.  When looking where to apply, my wife (also from Kennesaw, GA) and I knew we wanted to move back to the real South and had Greenville at the top of our list after visiting some friends who grew up here.  I was able to do an away rotation here as well, which enhanced my love for the city and showed me what an amazing program this is.  From exposure to all facets of psychiatry, to caring and compassionate faculty and residents, I knew this program was where I belonged, and I was so blessed to match here and join this family.  Speaking of family, my wife and I welcomed our first child, a baby girl, in November 2021, and we are so excited to watch her grow up here in Greenville.  Outside of medicine, you can find my family and I on the pickleball courts, exploring new restaurants, traveling to visit family and friends, or cheering on the Crimson Tide during football season.

Anne Tulisiak, MD

Hometown: Cincinnati, OH
Medical School: Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine
Medical Area of Interest: Addiction Psychiatry, Consult-Liaison Psychiatry, Sports Psychiatry

Goals for the future: Advocate for underserved and vulnerable populations

Hi everyone! I am grateful and excited to be back in sunny SC- from annual vacations in HHI to undergrad at USC in Columbia, where I studied biological sciences and minored in psychology, and now psychiatry residency in Greenville- I’m likely here to stay! I grew up in Cincinnati, OH, went to Ursuline Academy for high school, and worked as a medical assistant at a family practice for 1 year prior to matriculating into medical school. My interest in psychiatry stems from curiosity about the intricate mind, early exposure to clinical research and mentorship in child and adolescent psychiatry at University of Cincinnati, and awareness and appreciation of differences among humans and therefore a need for individualized care.

During my time off, you will find me watching football (Go Steelers! Go Gamecocks!) and exploring nature with my boyfriend and our furry-friend GSP named Louie. Other hobbies include international travel, yoga, baking and scuba diving.

Cade Walker, DO

Cade Walker, DO

Hometown: Deweyville, Utah
Medical school: West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine
Medical area of interest: Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, and Adult Inpatient Psychiatry

Hello, I’m Cade! I grew up in a small farmtown about an hour north of Salt Lake City, Utah. After graduating from Utah State University (Go Aggies!), my wife and I decided to pack our bags and move from the Western Rocky Mountains to the Eastern part of the country to experience a new adventure in Appalachia! We moved to Lewisburg, West Virginia, where I attended the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. It was during my clinical experiences on psychiatry rotations when I realized that this field is unique from all other fields of medicine. I gained an appreciation for adult inpatient psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, and child & adolescent psychiatry in West Virginia and knew by mid-way through my 3rd year of medical school that there was no other option for me than to pursue this incredible profession!

Haven fallen in love with the Eastern United States, we knew we had no intention of returning out to the West anytime soon, and we eventually set our sites on psychiatry programs in the Southeast! Before we even stepped foot in South Carolina, Greenville became an immediate top choice. The family-friendly program, the perfect sized city, the weather, the outdoor opportunities, the close-knit group of residents… the list goes on and on! Matching into Greenville was one of the happiest days of our family’s life! Our three children love this place we call home! When I’m not working alongside my friends, you can often find me flying drones, editing videos of my children’s adventures, helping spot turtles at the local Conestee Nature Preserve, and checking out Greenville’s many thrift stores (there’s over a dozen)!

I was born in near Detroit, MI and went to Michigan State University for my undergraduate studies where I developed an interest in psychiatry. This interest grew during my time at Kansas City University in Joplin, Missouri. It is a very exciting time to be in the field of psychiatry and I am excited by all the opportunities the program here in Greenville has to offer. I’ve been enjoying hiking in the area and checking out the local restaurants since moving here!

Medical areas of interest: Perinatal Psychiatry, Adult Inpatient Psychiatry, and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

Hi, I’m Autumnn, yes with two n’s! I was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, until I ventured out to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, at Messiah University for undergrad. I got a dual degree in Biology and Biochemistry, all the while being a DIII college swimmer. I’ve always loved the water ever since I was a child—especially the ocean—and my parents brought us to the Carolina beaches every year for vacation! It was always a dream that I never thought would actually come to fruition for me to one day be able to move down to the sunshine filled Carolinas! Although interviews were virtual and I had never been to Greenville, SC, once I interviewed and met all the wonderful residents and attendings, plus saw one too many gorgeous photos of Greenville, I was hooked! I’m so glad I matched here and get to train and learn at this amazing program and that I was able to move my little family, my partner and two pups, down to Greenville with me! On my time off, you’ll find me exploring new dog parks with our pups, trying out all the new restaurants, hopefully traveling again sometime soon, having game nights or just relaxing at home enjoying the beautiful weather outside!

Medical school University of South Carolina School of Medicine – Greenville
Hometown: Greenville, SC
Medical areas of interest: Addiction Psychiatry, Emergency Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry
Goals for the future: Become a clinician educator and continue my lifelong passion for teaching.

I spent most of my childhood in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but have lived here in Greenville for the last 15 years (yes, the heat and humidity was an adjustment!). I went to Wade Hampton High School and attended Bob Jones University, where I studied biology and chemistry. After graduating, I worked at a pathology lab for a year where I met my wife. I was accepted to the UofSC School of Medicine Greenville during that time, and on my way home from work I would pass by the medical school every day. Little did I know that I was also passing by my future place of employment as a resident physician at Prisma Health in the department of psychiatry! My wife and I are thrilled to have matched here. We love the small city vibes of Greenville and are grateful to be staying close to both of our families. Outside of medicine, you’ll find me playing local disc golf courses, starting more projects than I can finish, and constantly and unapologetically referencing Lord of the Rings.

Schyler Allen, DO

Schyler Allen, DO

Medical School: West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine
Residency: WVU/CAMC Behavioral Medicine & Psychatry

My husband and I moved from West Virginia with our six-month-old son and Italian greyhound. Psychiatry offers tremendous flexibility in both evaluation and management, which is both intellectually stimulating and challenging. Within that field, I gravitated towards child and adolescent psychiatry. Children are impressionable, intelligent, and have limitless capacity for success, given the right tools. As a provider, having the opportunity to observe their growth and trajectory, to make changes and see outcomes over time, and to share in the vicissitudes of life while helping to provide tools that reinforce stability feels incredibly rewarding. The first time we traveled to Greenville we fell in love with the city’s natural attractions, American history, and southern traditions. We are foodies and excited to explore the amazing dining options and outdoor attractions.
