Critical Care Inpatient Fellowship – Advanced Practice Clinician - Curriculum
Fellows in the Critical Care fellowship will:
- Complete an intensive training program focused specifically on the care of critically ill patients in the Medical ICU, Neurology ICU, Surgical ICU, Trauma ICU, and Cardiovascular ICU.
- Rotate through the specialty ICUs monthly, acquiring the medical knowledge and procedural skills necessary to safely and efficiently care for this patient population.
- Receive supervised procedural training for endotracheal intubation, central venous catheter insertion, arterial line insertion and small-bore chest tube insertion.
- Follow a structured curriculum of didactic materials and incorporate regularly scheduled lectures and simulations.
Performance is evaluated by satisfactory completion of tests pertaining to the curriculum and application of this knowledge in the clinical environment.
Schedule includes both day and night shifts at Greenville Memorial Hospital as well as surrounding Prisma Health facilities. Lengths of shifts may vary, but average 13 hours.

Simulation Center
The Prisma Health Simulation Center in the Upstate is among the most sophisticated simulation-based learning and research centers in the United States, with 35,000 square feet of purpose-built space equipped with simulation, multimedia and information technology.
Located on the second floor of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville and the third floor of the Clemson University School of Nursing on the Prisma Health Greenville Memorial campus, Prisma Health Simulation Center encompasses simulation, clinical skills and a willed body program.
Accreditation
Prisma Health Simulation Center in the Upstate was one of the first 30 simulation centers in the world to be accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) in 2012 and earned reaccreditation in 2017. This is the highest honor attainable by a Center in recognition of its efforts in Center operations, healthcare system integration, teaching and assessment standards. This international accreditation validates the daily efforts of our staff and teaching faculty who utilize the Simulation Center. In doing so, we offer the highest quality of training to our learners so that they can, in turn, provide outstanding care to our patients in the clinical domain.

Eligibility requirements and application process
- Preferred applicants are within 12 months of graduation from their NP/PA program, but experienced candidates are welcomed to apply.
- All applicants are required to have an active South Carolina Advanced Practice License, Federal DEA, NPI, and SC Controlled Substances Registration prior to starting clinical session
