The Gastroenterology and Hepatology division within the department of Medicine at Prisma Health offers an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited three year Gastroenterology fellowship training Program that combines an outstanding education and training experience in gastrointestinal clinical care and endoscopic training with excellent clinical research opportunities.

The Gastroenterology and Hepatology division provides inpatient and outpatient gastrointestinal consultation covering the full spectrum of gastrointestinal and hepatopancreatic biliary disorders. Our team also has strong commitment to clinical management and training in general gastroenterology, hepatology, pancreaticobiliary diseases, and diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. We offer a full range of gastrointestinal procedures in our state-of-the-art GI endoscopic units located across the various centers within Prisma Health including the Memorial Medical Offices building, Greenville Memorial Hospital and Hillcrest Memorial Hospital.

During the course of their training, our GI fellows develop expertise in preforming various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, dilatation, hemostasis, esophageal manometry, pH impedance testing, polypectomy, small bowel endoscopy including video capsule endoscopy , PEG insertion, as well as exposure to endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).

Our GI fellows also benefit from our strong relationships with our colleagues in the Department of Surgery and its subspecialties, Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, Oncology and Pathology. They will also have opportunities to participate in a variety of didactic sessions such as journal club, clinical case conference, department of Medicine grand rounds, multidisciplinary team conferences (MDC) in the division of oncology and a Pathology conference.

We have a strong faculty presence with special interests and expertise not only in General gastroenterology, but also Hepatology, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), clinical nutrition, clinical research activities and advanced therapeutic endoscopy.
