Internal Medicine Residency Greenville - 3rd Year Residents
Medical School: Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine
What drew me to the program: When I was looking into residency programs, I really wanted to attend a program that would provide great education and clinical training which would prepare me well for any field of medicine while still being able to have a good work life balance. During the interview, there was great camaraderie amongst the residents, and they genuinely seemed happy. I could tell that the leadership, faculty and administration really cared about the residents and it was evident that the program has a supportive, close-knit family feel which was exactly what I was looking for in a program.
In terms of location, I was hoping to escape the cold winters I was accustomed to and looking for a smaller place that didn’t have huge crowds or crazy traffic. Greenville is the perfect size and has a small town feel, yet has never ending things to do. The weather is amazing, the people are friendly, and it is just a short drive away from mountains and the beach. Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a better program or place to live.

What drew me to the program: My husband and I knew we wanted to match somewhere that valued us as learners and people as well as residents and we wanted a place where we felt part of a family. We immediately felt that when we interviewed at Prisma. Although our interviews were virtual, we could see the culture of connection and friendship between the residents when we spoke with them and saw them interact. A lot of programs will tell you with words how they support their residents, but we could just see it from the leadership and attendings we met. We knew we wanted to be in an environment like that. It’s also a huge perk that Prisma is in a cool, fun city. Prisma really did check all of our boxes!
Medical School: Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine
What drew me to the program: Going into the match we were looking for a program that provides the resources an academic hospital, but also values resident wellness and a sense of community. My interview day made it clear that Prisma Health would check those boxes, and more. I also found it very encouraging that the residents here seemed like genuine friends, not just co-workers.
Visiting Greenville for the first time in Fall 2021 is what ultimately sold us, as we found the city to be a perfect complement to the program, laid-back and neighborly with a versatile range of experiences!

What drew me to the program: In these days of residency Zoom interviews, it’s always hard to tell the vibe of each program. From the Happy Hour through the entire interview day, I really felt the comradery between residents and faculty that was different from every other program. The people here really know about each other’s lives and genuinely care about your well-being! I loved the size of the program and availability of so many subspecialties.
Plus, Greenville is a great city!

What drew me to the program: When looking for a residency program, I wanted a program that could balance a few different things: a challenging training environment that was also supportive, welcoming co-residents and leadership with a focus on resident wellness and multiple opportunities based on career interests. Prisma Health checked all those boxes, and it has been evident since interview day. On interview day, I felt that everyone wanted to get to know me as a person, not just as an applicant. In the short amount of time I have been here, I feel like I have already grown as a resident and feel very supported by my co-residents and leadership inside and outside the hospital.
Greenville and the surrounding areas are a major plus as well, with the restaurants, breweries, outdoor activities and so much more, this program really feels like home!
Medical School: University of Kentucky College of Medicine
What drew me to the program: What first drew me to Prisma Health was its location - it’s just a drive away from the mountains, the beach, and my Old Kentucky Home. What sold me on the program, though, was how much Prisma healthcare staff love working and caring for their patients. In a profession that can be mentally and emotionally challenging, it is evident that they know what a privilege we have to practice medicine. They interact with one another like a family and they truly love what they do.
Medical School: Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine
What drew me to the program: This program really stood out on the interview trial because of the genuineness and enthusiasm that came across during my meet & greet and interview day. Everyone was so kind and welcoming from the beginning… and that really translates to the culture here at Prisma Health.
I felt like I fit in instantly and everyone really is part of a big family that supports each other. The program has excellent opportunities in all areas including academics and community involvement which was a priority for me. It's only been a few months so far, but I am really looking forward to spending the next few years here in Greenville!

What drew me to the program: I was interested in finding a small to mid-sized program that would allow for close interaction with faculty and opportunities for mentoring. Throughout my interview day, I could tell that attendings involved with the program were interested in resident education and engagement. I also very much appreciated the close-knit community among residents that was apparent throughout the interview day.

What drew me to the program: During my interview, I sensed that the program leadership really cares about their residents. Seeing the residents bond during social hour confirmed the positive learning environment the program provides. This supportive atmosphere generates many opportunities when it comes time to apply for fellowships.

What drew me to the program:
1. People - residents shared how happy they were at the Q&A and shared examples of how it was a family environment. The faculty and program leadership exuded that same energy during the interview day as well.
2. Training - perfect hybrid of a community and academic program and has tons of didactics opportunities every week with morning reports, noon conferences, journal clubs, academic half days, POCUS and much more.
3. Patients - treats unique urban and rural populations from the Carolinas that are vulnerable and helps alleviate the health disparities in the area.
4. Extracurricular opportunities - being able to teach med students at an in-house med school, The Colleges Program, DEI taskforce, House Staff senate, early mentorship and research opportunities - the pathways to grow as a resident are endless here.

What drew me to the program: So, to be completely candid, Prisma Health Upstate was my number 1 when I made my rank list. I had the privilege of attending medical school here in Greenville, and I knew the environment and culture of Prisma Health.
I wanted to stay at Prisma because it had everything I wanted- a university affiliated hospital (and all the resources that come with that) with a community feel, a welcoming and relational culture and a lovely location.
During my M3/4 years while rotating through GMH, I was constantly pushed to be a better learner and student doctor, but I was never pushed to a limit where the pressure became counterproductive. I knew I would thrive in an environment that valued their residents, their residents' learning and their patients.
Medical School: University of Minnesota Medical School
What drew me to the program: I liked how the program was small enough to have a close-knit feel but emphasized academics and research. I appreciated how welcoming everyone was, I felt like I would be supported and fit right in. Greenville is also a gem! There’s always something to do and lots of hiking nearby.

What drew me to the program: Having gone to medical school in Greenville, I was able to experience, first-hand, the supportive, open environment the Internal Medicine program fosters for its residents and students. I became fast friends with the residents and have family close by in Charlotte. I also love downtown Greenville and its hiking friendly location in the upstate. I graduated from Clemson and enjoy being a short drive away from Gameday and tailgates. That being said, PHU was a natural choice for me to continue my medical education. I’m excited to step through the hospital doors as a resident this time around and look forward to continuing growth of Greenville!
